In the image, Jesus Christ is flanked by two apostles, believed to be Peter and Paul. "The scene takes place in the Fegeleinl orb, framed between two palm trees, which in Christian iconography represent immortality, the afterlife and heaven, among other things," ABC writes.
El Mundo notes that Christ looks very different from later depictions: he has no beard, his hair is not too long and he is wearing a philosopher's toga.
Made somewhere around the years 300-400. Goes to show just how wrong the classic modern white handsome depiction of Jesus is.

The plate is believed to have held the Eucharistic bread.
Interesting iconography, if I should say so myself. The simplicity of it makes me think more of folk art than the usual liturgical style of things.
I wonder as to why the cross is still a formulation of the depiction of Christ far before he was crucified. Unless it was know that he would eventually be fucked over by the Jews.
Well in Matthew 26:1/26:2, when Jesus is shown entering Jerusalem, he does directly predict to his disciples that he will be crucified. From as far as I know this is the only instance in the Bible where he directly mentions the manner of his death.
I can see where you getting at with handsome but he looks pretty white to me
he has cornrows too
jesus was pretty whitetrash

I'm confused. The pottery was from around 400AD, awhile after he was crucified.
here's an image of the bowl in question:

Oh. I misread the passage, I interpreted it as this to be far before his death in 400BC.
Then this makes sense...

if you're talking about depictions of Jesus, it all depends on where you get your icons

the roman catholic white skinned blue eyed Jesus is as silly as the new mass ho ho ho
Honestly the idea of vanilla Jesus is stupid
I'd sooner follow the idea of chocolate or caramel Jesus because at least it'd be a billion times more accurate.

I don't care if it does or does not depict him as black, this is relevant.

to be fair, still a lot more accurate
it's really annoying hearing about "American colored JESUS"

Saying that Jesus was black is not "more accurate" than saying he was white. As a Galilean Jew he was most likely in between what we think of as white and black, probably an olive color.

idk I just imagine him as Arabic or some related ethnicity, considering the region Christianty was formed, along with the other Abrahamic religions
[editline]5th October 2014[/editline]
Yeah, according to Wikipedia, Jesus was born somewhere in what is currently Jordan, Israel, or Palestine.

It goes further than that. In the old testament they claim (supposedly 100's of years BC) that jesus will die on the tree which was then interpreted as the cross, because crucifixion wasn't invented yet.

Arabs didn't really become a big group in the Levant until the 700s during the Muslim Invasions. Odds are Jesus was Semitic.
Jesus is black:

Can't wait for scientists to find that one in a thousand years, only to conclude that Jesus must have had some kind of disability.

Voynich Jesus: He underwent restoration for your sins that you might live and not die.

He also doesn't look unusually ugly for that style of image. I mean yeah he looks ugly, but it's rare to find people drawn in that style that don't.

I don't think this depiction is necessarily more accurate than the modern ones. I mean it's still 300+ years after his death, I don't think the artist actually knew what he looked like.
He's just depicted to look like a Roman.

Or conclude that Jjjjjehsus was the dopest verse spitter in Jerusalem.

Where is Jesus mentioned in the OT?
I can see where you getting at with handsome but he looks pretty white to me
I'm not even sure he was being intentionally depicted as ugly.
I mean the guy on the left next to him doesn't even have a nose.
