The 13 Year Old Girl Who Hunts With A Golden Eagle
Most children, Asher Svidensky says, are a little intimidated by golden eagles. Kazakh boys in western Mongolia start learning how to use the huge birds to hunt for foxes and hares at the age of 13, when the eagles sit heavily on their undeveloped arms. Svidensky, a photographer and travel writer, shot five boys learning the skill - and he also photographed Ashol-Pan.
"To see her with the eagle was amazing," he recalls. She was a lot more comfortable with it, a lot more powerful with it and a lot more at ease with it."
Several more pics in the article
Goddamn, that Turkic/Steppe culture is just awesome to learn about
Like the Mongolian equivalent of falconers, pretty awesome.

*Altaic. That's the word I'm looking for.
(it's not letting me edit for some reason)
You will never be as manly as this 13 year old girl
That must be amazing, hunting up in those mountains with that view surrounding you. The eagle just makes the whole thing that much more beautiful.
Those pictures look so movie-like
That's awesome
Title made me think that the girl was actually hunting with a golden deagle :(
BBC did an awesome series a few years ago and one of them had Mongolians (Or Kazakh) in it

This is more interesting.
I'm not surprised. Mongols are natural badasses.
was honestly expecting a badass 13 year old hunting with a golden desert eagle, slightly disappointed
but hey, this is cool too!
She looks like the happiest human being on earth in those pictures.
Jealous much!
"The right to bear eagles" should have been the 2nd Amendment.

But these are Kazakhs mentioned, not Mongols
Instantly thought of the rescuers down under when I saw the news title.

This is way to fucking cool.
I wanna be a mongol now.

Mongolia is a very pretty place, 10/10 would invade if possible
She would make a great villain. She needs an eyepatch or a cool face-scar though.
Oh, I read that as Golden Deagle.
whoops
Genghis Khan comes to mind when I hear Mongolia...

Mongolia will invade you, first.
Largest land empire ever. Hail to the Khan, baby.
Why did Svindensky shoot those 5 boys?
Meh that's cool and all but, it'd be cooler to hunt with a pack of komodo dragons
4/10
This title is so much better than the title on the BBC's mobile site (the only time I really read the BBC is while killing time on my phone): "Girl Hunter"

I did a double-take when I first saw that headline, because the article's contents are nothing like what the title implied to me at first. :v:

This is infinitely more badass.
There's such beauty in the desolation of Mongolia. I love how they release their Eagles after a few seasons- live off the fat of the land, but respect and honor her.
I'll love to have a eagle on my lap and walk down the city streets. It'll make you look badass
