(Reuters) - A Malaysian airliner was shot down over eastern Ukraine by militants on Thursday, killing all 295 people aboard, a Ukrainian interior ministry official was quoted as saying by Interfax-Ukraine news agency.
The aircraft, which other sources said was a Boeing 777 flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, came down near the city of Donetsk, stronghold of pro-Russian rebels, Anton Gerashchenko said, adding that it was hit by a ground-to-air missile.
There was no further confirmation of the report, although Ukrainian officials said local residents had found wreckage.
Malaysia Airlines said on its Twitter feed it had lost contact with its flight MH-17 from Amsterdam. "The last known position was over Ukrainian airspace," it said.

295 people is pretty big. This cold be tragic.
For a second I thought they meant MH370...
I really hope it wasn't shot down
Oh shit this is gonna be really bad isn't it?
Oh shit, it left from Amsterdam. Could be quite a few Dutch people on board, especially because it's the summer holidays :(

Ok so I wasn't the only one :v:
Oh fuck, they found it crashed and on fire in Ukraine? Any reports of fatalities?
Oh man, if this wasn't a mechanical failure or pilot error, and acctually was a missle or something; Ukraine is FUCKED.
This is going to cause an international incident. Europe is going to be pissed if it was shot down .

295, it was a 777.
Air space that plane crashed had been closed down by Ukraine, because of the military plane shot down by Russians recently.
I doubt it but I hope some people made it out alive...

Now the blame game begins.
"Ukraine did it!"
"FUCK YOU ROOOSIYA"

What is to say it was not a foiled terrorist attack too, the plane could've been hijacked?
How big was it? Can someone find it on flightradar24/flightaware?.
I think FR24 already overloaded from other people with similar queries :v:
Also I just flew out of Germany yesterday to go back to the US :tinfoil:
Well it's a good thing that has absolutely nothing to do with this news.
What is to say it was not a foiled terrorist attack too, the plane could've been hijacked?
rebellion, invasion and terrorism all in one area?
probably the nightmare of every intelligence agency paper worker ever
What is to say it was not a foiled terrorist attack too, the plane could've been hijacked?
Regardless what it was, if there are no survivors it could be months before we actually know what happened. Black boxes and the recorders are good, but don't provide everything.
It's made a tense situation even worse.
I have a feeling it was shot down, i mean how big of a chance that a plane crashes near Donetsk?
Sky news is confirming it was shot down
shits going doowwwwnnn
What is to say it was not a foiled terrorist attack too, the plane could've been hijacked?
the terrorists succeeded in crashing it into the most controversial thing in Ukraine: Ukraine itself
[sp]I really doubt it was terrorism and the chances of this being a missile intercept outweigh most other potentials[/sp]
if this is shot down by russia like last time this is going to bring huge concesquences
fuck it started from amsterdam, theres gonna be people from every single fucking european country there
Wouldn't commercial aircraft be outside of the range of MANPAD systems?
777 are super-reliable. Speaks volumes about Malaysian Airlines if they lost two of them to mechanical problems in one year.

They have no source... It's to quick to jump on that unless they have proof.

The last time when Russia shot down a plane it had Polish officials and president in it and nothing happened.
Read reports of no survivors on a dutch website, can't confirm though.
All passengers and crew presumed dead.
The news agency claimed that the Malaysian Airlines passenger plane was shot down by Russian authorities but that has yet to be confirmed.
A Malaysia Airlines official has confirmed the plane has crashed and they are due to make a statement shortly.
