[t]http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/0521161453b2.jpg[/t] Colt’s Manufacturing Co., LLC, announced at the 2016 National Rifle Association Annual meeting that they would be introducing new semi automatic reproductions of their previous military AR-15 and CAR-15 offerings to the civilian market. According to representatives, the company hopes to release 1500 each of every model of AR-15 made during the Vietnam era (which I assume means 600 series rifles only). If the company lives up to this promise, it means the chance to own everything from the first Colt AR-15, the classic 601, to the rare 605 carbine that was the first rifle in the series of short Colts that eventually led to today’s M4 Carbine. Hopefully, all variants through the special low profile 656 sniper will be made available, although I cannot confirm what variants will actually be produced. When I asked Colt’s representative, he simply said “we plan to make everything”.
The Firearm Blog Oh my fuck, yes. CAR-15 and M16A1 designs are without a doubt the most aesthetically pleasing of the AR-15 family.
I would like an A1 but I have a feeling these are going to be beyond my pricerange since they're only making 1500 of each and are Colt-branded to boot.
Cool, I still think that a M16A1 with a 30 round magazine is pretty much the coolest looking rifle ever.
Hmm. Shame these will probably be so expensive. I'm trying to build an A1 clone but the parts kits are pretty hard to come by nowadays.
Those CAR used by the LRRPs look so badass as fuck. The taped-together magazines, the green duct tape on the hand guard and that red dot prototype. How incredible. 40 years have passed (more or less) from the introduction of the AR 15 platform. And the US army still uses to this day. Guess the switch to 6.8spc or another platform is either too damn expensive logistically or is not worth it.
Hmm. Shame these will probably be so expensive. But these are "limited edition" aka add $1000 to the pricetag. If I'm wrong on that I'll eat my hat.

It's nice, but they're going to drive the purists fucking insane if they keep getting the details wrong. That's supposedly an XM16E1, but it has the older 'duckbill' flash hider. The E1/M16A1 should have a birdcage flash hider. It seems kind of pointless to do a reproduction run of every variation if they're going to fuck up details like that, considering those details are what make the variations unique.
What's the difference between an AR-15 and an M16? Is one of those just a subvariant?

All the kits are sold out everywhere so I have a feeling I'm just going to be SOL unless I sell a kidney for one of these.
What's the difference between an AR-15 and an M16? Is one of those just a subvariant?
AR-15 is the term for the design, the civilian models, and generally the entire platform. M16/M4 is the military designation for the variants they use.

The birdcage hider was developed because after the three prong hider was issued it was found that it snagged on vegetation a lot.[/del] Guess not? idk, I was sure I'd seen them in A1 parts kits
What's the difference between an AR-15 and an M16? Is one of those just a subvariant?
The difference is one has full auto/burst fire and the other can only use semi auto. M16 for full auto/burst, AR15 for Civilians.
I want one. They're going to be way overpriced. Like the semi auto M249 that FN made.

(Hello HK, this is America calling, everyone likes MP5s but we know government customers don't pay $2000 a piece for them, please come back and sell them at a reasonable price.)
Holy shit id love to own one with a stanag 20 round mag. That shit's so sexy to me.

With the right licensing you would pay much less for any automatic weapon than the semi automatic variant sold to the public. Colt may sell 50k semi auto AR's a month here in the U.S but hundreds of thousands worldwide.

In either case, out every gun I have ever seen, vietnam war era the m16/ar15 (the one on the bottom of the pic) is the sexiest gun that exists. I love the look of it.
I'm curious to know what this'll do to SP1, which is the only other Vietnam style AR15 officially made by Colt I'd be lying if I said I wasn't at least a little bit concerned about it becoming devalued now
Hmm. Shame these will probably be so expensive. I'm trying to build an A1 clone but the parts kits are pretty hard to come by nowadays.
There's plenty available right now at sportsmans guide, sarco, wholesale hunter, etc. Nodak spud makes period correct receivers too if you're looking to do SUPER retro builds like XM16E1's and 601's. Green Mountain also makes 20" 1-12 twist pencil profile barrels for about $150.
So for proper reproduction do they come with no cleaning kits and 1000 rounds of ammo with the wrong powder composition?
and non-chrome lined barrels and chambers.
and non-chrome lined barrels and chambers.
And no forward assist, so if the bolt gets fouled you're super-fucked.
So for proper reproduction do they come with no cleaning kits and 1000 rounds of ammo with the wrong powder composition?
if we go back a few years we can even get no forward assist - for FREE!
And no forward assist, so if the bolt gets fouled you're super-fucked.
ninja'd by a bit, shame Looks like the lineup starts with the A1, so I assume the forward assist will be ther
Colt can fuck off with that price, and they are a limited run? Boo.
Hey I've got one of those! [t]http://i.imgur.com/mv5Db2O.jpg[/t] Thank fuck these new ones are limited run...this baby set me back
My boat still has some M16A1s we use for watch. A few years ago I heard we were supposed to get M4s soon but that still hasn't happened. I fucking hate them.
It would probably be a vietnam era AR but with some modern improvements to reliability. But who knows maybe they will go hyper accurate on it?
They're definitely the cooler looking M16s but aren't the ones from Vietnam famous for being really shitty? Very unreliable?
