Windows 10, which is in the final stages of testing right now, is expected to be signed off this week, according to our internal sources. Microsoft has been working on Windows 10 for several years, and originally called 'Threshold', the OS is the follow-up to Windows 8 which received a less-than-warm reception by consumers. Windows 10 breaks from the past with a new 'free' price tag for upgrades, becoming Windows as a Service, and the core of the OS now runs on every device Microsoft builds and supports. This week, the company will complete their initial testing and sign off the OS, or what many refer to as RTM (Release to Manufacturing). But this does not mean that the OS is done - far from it, as Microsoft will continue to add new features with the first set arriving this fall, and then there is Redstone that will be delivered next year.
If thy could release it to manufacturing, why not release it digitally to consumers, then? It's only a few weeks from the proper release, but still.

Edge is still WIP and needs more work, so it's not ready just yet
Edge is still WIP and needs more work, so it's not ready just yet
Windows Apps can be updated through the store, I think that's part of the point, so i think they could roll out Edge changes later.
Holy shit, that made me realize: Edge could have a proper update schedule this time around. Because let's face it, the only thing holding IE back is the fact that it updates once every year or so.
Edge is still WIP and needs more work, so it's not ready just yet
The benefit of the nice "app" ecosystem that everything has nowadays is that you can turn it on and get a day 1 update. Everyone wins, the OEMs / retailers can have the product (whatever it be, OS, hardware etc) ready to go in stores and the developers can still work on updates till the last minute (and beyond). I guess it will work the same way modern consoles do, you turn it on and it does an update even know its been out 10 mins.

They want to get it as polished as they possibly can before putting it out.
