This came up on /v/ yesterday but the conference wasn't available to listen to until today, the topic of development costs comes up at 6:00 and they talk about a price increase at about 7:00. If it asks you to fill out information just put random shit.
Would you expect to see some kind of pricing increase next generation? I think typically at the start of a cycle you've seen the pricing raise to say $69 for a core piece of software, we haven't yet set pricing on our Gen 4 but you'll probably see a similar trend to that during the next cycle.
http://investors.ea.com/eventdetail.cfm?EventID=125912
Maybe each game will eventually cost as much as a console who knows :v:
Welp, not buying a next gen console now. I can't tell you that last time I've bought a game full priced. I would always wait a while until they were cheaper to buy used, but now with digital downloads only, it doesn't look like price cuts will come any time soon. If I recall correctly, MW2 is still like, $50 on XBL.
No thanks.

Already breaking the bank at $60, let a lone $50. It's why I cry tears of joy whenever I snag a good game on a sale; or find a great indie game for only $5-$15. Getting Sleeping Dogs for $10 was a good feeling.
EA: "Gee, I wonder what would make us even less popular then before?"
But it's not going to be digital downloads only?
They talk about that in the conference too, apparently they want to move into digital distribution even more.
wtf who cares as long as i got my Madden 2017, video games are fuckin shit sports and weed is all i need
They talk about that in the conference too, apparently they want to move into digital distribution even more.
I thought he meant consoles in general were going to be download only. I hope they don't go digital only, other companies will follow suite and that would suck.
I could care less about what the launch price, not only do I rarely by a game at launch, due to how shafted I have gotten in the past, is because I remember back in 00's they were like 79-89 bucks for N64 games. Micro-transactions such as it is in TF2 doesn't bother me, things like Diablo 3(I think it was) where the only real way to complete the game was via grinding forever, or use the auction house do bother me Social doesn't bother me because I make a fake persona anyhow. The real excitement for me in the next gen consoles is the x86 platform introduction, assuming the leaked Xbox720 also has a similar 8-6 core x86 CPU, we should see a huge increase on games ported to the PC.
Perhaps they should spend less money on graphics, famous vocie actors, and marketing. Instead spend more money making the games fun to play.
The economy is down, gaming has gotten more and more prolific every year, yet games are still priced like upper-class luxury goods. I just don't get it. Oh, wait, yes I do. EA are greedy cunts who hate their customers.
eh I'm a PC only gamer these days this won't affect me
Oh, wait, yes I do. EA are greedy cunts who hate their customers.
they don't hate them, they just treat/think of them as mindless cattle and can you blame them, considering their success?
Perhaps they should spend less money on graphics, famous vocie actors, and marketing. I realize graphics aren't everything but it does help set the atmosphere for the game, same goes for Voice Acting, nothing is worse than in Fo3/FO:NV/Skyrim than hearing the 6 or 7 same Voice actors in their monotone voice "Ahh a dragon/ghoul/Bad guy!"

Its a good thing im never giong to buy an EA game again.
People crying over the prices of video games need to go read up how much these things cost to make, with the next generation of consoles right around the corner the price of development is only going to go up.
Maybe they should stop blowing hundreds of millions of dollars on deceptive ad campaigns then.
Bye EA.
I have a feeling indie games will become more and more prevalent as triple A games continue becoming more expensive and have more DLCs.
what a cheap excuse to raise up game prices "ohoh you know, for the next generation its a WHOLE NEW THING of making games, its a step, not a slow procress" balls, the development techniques did not change from a day to another, and didnt get more expensive from that, in fact, should be easier now that you guys have more powerful consoles? they try to make us think this whole generation bullshit is ruled by NEW CONSOLES? get shot.
i only buy like 1-3 $60 game a year this year it's going to be sim city
i only buy like 1-3 $60 game a year this year it's going to be sim city
I haven't bought a $60 game in years. On consoles I just buy it used months later for 50% of the price and on PC I wait for steam sales. Also you don't have to play the newest games. There are TONS of good old games out there waiting to be played that you can get now for less than $10 on both console and pc.
I haven't bought a full priced 60 dollar game since 2010.
Why do you expect the prices of games to go down if the costs of development are only rising?
That's where they're going so wrong.
It's a lot more complicated than that, it's not cheap to pay the wages of hundreds of people, nor is it cheap to hire voice actors, or pay all the fees associated with development which can vary greatly depending on what kind of game you're making. Have a lot of licensed music? (IE GTA) Get ready to cough up a load of cash. Want to make your game historically accurate? You have to do a lot of research and traveling, which isn't cheap. Want to use real world weapons or vehicles? Have fun with all those fees the creators of said weapons & vehicles want you to pay. Want to make a game based around a real world location? Fly some people there and take thousands of photos over the course of a few months. Don't want your game to be underdeveloped or awful? Better get ready for a 2-4 year development cycle, and that's just for current gen games. And after all this is said and done, you then have to pay the ridiculous fees that Microsoft and Sony force you to pay if you want your game on their consoles, and then they take a cut of all your sales on their respective consoles.
But most of the time, and especially in EA's case, most of the game's budget goes to marketing and these days it's not uncommon to hear about publishers jewing the devs out of money they deserve by firing them all before a milestone so they don't have to pay bonuses or some other incredibly underhanded tactic. If the publishers didn't spend so much damn money on (in most cases) blatantly misrepresenting their product, maybe they wouldn't have to raise prices and piss their dwindling consumer base off even more.
Love you Steam. <3
Gamers also want doritos and mtn dew advertisements
