All that's left now of Newtown massacre gunman Adam Lanza's former home is an empty lot.
Connecticut's Department of Public Works demolished the home where Lanza, who was responsible for the 2012 mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, lived with his mother. Earlier this year, local lawmakers in Newtown voted unanimously to destroy the white Colonial home in an effort to remove the constant reminder of the tragedy that occurred in their community. Workers on Tuesday knocked down the structure and cleared the rubble.

How pointless, I would have loved to live in a house like that.
This doesn't achieve anything, it turns out. It just gets rid of a home that could have been sold. It's not like it's turned into a crackhouse or something.
Honestly that's fucking stupid
Its a fucking house, not a relic of anything
By their logic they should demolish the fucking school then
did he come from a rich family or something? since that's a pretty fancy house for a 20 year old.

I might be misremembering, but I think they might have actually done that.

They did.

Instead of trying to solve the underlying issues, let's literally burry them in rubble.
What was the town supposed to do? No one would buy that house, or if someone did, it would be some nutjob. I don't know of anyone in this state who is disappointed by this decision. The shooting shook our small state to its core, and we just want everything to do with it gone.
They did.

Oh, well then I'll change my statement
By that logic they should bulldoze the entire fucking town since it had the killer living in it

I seriously doubt that you can imagine or sympathize with the sentiments that having your small little community changed forever by one of the deadliest shootings in this nation's history creates.
Might have been the house of a murderer, but I guarantee you somebody would have liked to live there.
Might have been the house of a murderer, but I guarantee you somebody would have liked to live there.
And surely a new house will be built on the lot. We don't need nutjobs like the Sandy Hook deniers memorializing this guy.
It's the same reason why the bank burned all of Lanza's possessions. To prevent them from being sold as memorabilia.
They did.
But wasn't it already gonna get demolished anyways?

What's the point of demolishing a house since its no longer in his possession? It's property that can be put up for sale instead of being demolished.
They probably did this because no one wanted to property with the house on it. Now the city can do something productive with it. I don't see the big deal.
I don't understand why people are getting so upset. No one in the town liked the house after what happened and so they got rid of it. It's their town, their land, their decision and you should respect that. Sure, it's a nice looking house but Connecticut has so many more houses like that one. If you actually 'really wanted to live in a house like that :(' then come to CT, you'll find one almost instantly.

woops late
this thread is reminding me of the all the times I see a youtube video of someone smashing a phone or game system for a 'durability test' and all the comments are "what a fucking waste you should've just given it to somebody!!!"
to hell with anything that still gives him power over people's emotions in that town
didn't he kill his mother in that house?
I don't know about you but many people don't like living in houses where a murder/suicide has occurred, probably especially if that killer then continued on to kill many children.

He killed his mother there, yes, before going on the shooting rampage. The bank owned the house, and they gave it to the town at no cost. The town voted to tear it down after neighbors complained that they don't want the attraction.
The house would have inevitably become an attraction, and it's a small community. There's nothing wrong with this decision.
Not to mention it costed the town nothing. They were given the house for free by the bank, and a local construction company demolished it for free as a donation to the town.

Dead bodies sink property values. Not that I would know anything about that...

A new house can easily be put up on the property, its not like they burned and salted the earth that the property was on
What's the point of demolishing a house since its no longer in his possession? It's property that can be put up for sale instead of being demolished.
It's now a lot that can be built upon
So instead of using this as a chance to actually fix our terrible gun policies and horrid health care system, we've decided the best course of action is to simply ignore the entire thing and pretend these things never happen? Great.
I understand not wanting the memories and all but his mom and all the other victims of every shooting in this country have died in vain so long as we continue to do nothing to fix the issues that cause these events. It's like having a thousand houses burn down and kill entire families inside but not do anything to look into why it happened at all nor do anything to prevent future fires.

What about turning that house into a Memorial to the people who died at Sandy Hook. Instead of destroying a house for no reason, make something out of it.

Because all of facepunch is one person. Also, there's a big difference between breaking a $250+ phone or game system that may or may not already be broken compared to a $250,000+ house that someone could've lived in.
