Prime Minister Tony Abbott has accused Labor of causing a "holocaust of job" losses but has quickly withdrawn the remark after immediate outcry. Mr Abbott was being pressed in question time about the surge in unemployment and the government's plans to potentially buy submarines from overseas, instead of commission Australian-built vessels in Adelaide. The opposition's workplace spokesman Brendan O'Connor asked Mr Abbott: "South Australia's unemployment rate has now reached 7.3 per cent. Prime Minister, when will good government actually start and the Prime Minister deliver on his promise to build submarines in South Australia?" The Prime Minister went on the offensive, telling Parliament: "Under members opposite defence jobs in this country declined by 10 per cent. There was a holocaust of jobs in defence industries under members opposite." Labor frontbencher Tony Burke got to his feet but before he raise a point of order, the Prime Minister withdrew his remark. "That's what there was Madame Speaker, jobs, jobs, jobs, I'm sorry if I, I'm sorry and I withdraw Madame Speaker. There was a decimation of jobs," he said. In video footage of the incident, Foreign Minister Julie Bishop, who is sitting behind Mr Abbott, can be seen nodding vigorously but stops abruptly when the Prime Minister uses the word "holocaust" The Executive Council of Australian Jewry's policy platform advocates against any wider use of the word holocaust, saying it "deplores the inappropriate use of analogies to the Nazi genocide in Australian public debate". At the end of question time Mr Abbott rose to his feet to again apologise for his comment. "I should not have used the word, the term holocaust, I did withdraw it," he said. "I shouldn't have used it, I did withdraw it, I do apologise for it.: He added: "Whatever happens with our future submarine contract, there'll be more jobs for South Australia, that's the bottom line."
http://www.smh.com.au/federal-politics/political-news/tony-abbott-accuses-labor-of-causing-holocaust-of-jobs-20150212-13cy8n.html
Jesus Tony, already saying shit despite what happened on Monday with the Leadership Spill? You are seriously not going to wait for stuff to cool down a bit more before spouting stupid shit like this?
I think he knows his career's finished and now he's trying to go down in glory
I think he knows his career's finished and now he's trying to go down in glory
holocaust comparisons aren't particularly glorious
holocaust comparisons aren't particularly glorious
No but if anything they're memorable
Labor was out of government more than one fucking year ago. Stop fucking blaming them for all your fucking problems, Tony.
The worst PM in Australian history.
The worst PM in Australian history.
since federation. He is the biggest embarrassment to australian politics ever, and couldn't care less yet bows to his conservative stronghold to help downplay his attempt tit-for-tat politics. (he'll never beat the master, Paul J Keating.)
Truly the George W Bush of Australian Prime Ministers.
Truly the George W Bush of Australian Prime Ministers.
George Bush put more thought into what he said than this idiot.
ahahahahaha this cocksucker is always sticking his foot in his mouth. At least Bush was kind of cutesy in his retardation.
The Executive Council of Australian Jewry's policy platform advocates against any wider use of the word holocaust
wtf jews dont own the word holocaust
considering he directly fucking compared the Gillard government to the Third Reich when he was opposition leader this hardly comes as a surprise
jobs, jewbs, jews... easy mistake to make, really
Holocaust: destruction or slaughter on a mass scale, especially caused by fire or nuclear war. Wasn't making a reference to Nazi Germany. Was being an idiot with his word choice.
Tony, Tony, Tony... Fucks up more than any other prime minister I have seen. More than Julia Gillard Kevin Rudd. Now I just can't wait to see him booted off.

That we're so collectively stupid as a country that we allowed fear mongering to direct us to vote a complete imbecile into power. Try and put all the blame on the world on him for being an idiot, but we're the bigger idiots for putting him in power in the first place.
Truly the George W Bush of Australian Prime Ministers.
Even Bush wasn't this caliber of idiot. Sure he made mistakes, but in the end he was trying to do his best. Tony appears to be completely and shamelessly incompetent.

Well, he withdrew the word and apologised immediately. People are just hyping it up unnecessarily in my opinion. I don't care that he used that word, he was trying to raise a point in relation to defence jobs. He was not championing anything about the major genocide against various peoples conducted by nazis.

Look at Kansas here in the us, a republican governor ran the state into an enormous deficit, the local republican party didn't even support him and he got reelected by a landslide because he ran on a platform of ogobama is taking your rights and going to put your elderly on deathpannels while gays get married in your churches

Should have said it 17 months ago. Not to forget that his now welfare-minister who was moved from the Immigration portfolio moved notions of increasing penalties on asylum seekers. This is a guy who can't even communicate properly to the media nor to the house of representatives. The coalition government have done more to royally screw over the Australian people using deceitfulness and fearmongering to gain power, all the while our economy continues to decline, unemployment being at it's peak since 2002 (when he himself was Employment minister under the Howard government) and continues to degrade a fair majority of the electorate, disregarding their concerns.
abbott has a great record of saying dumb things all the time, didnt he make some third reich comparison as well?
ahahahahaha this cocksucker is always sticking his foot in his mouth. At least Bush was kind of cutesy in his retardation.
Next time think of a. better word. Aside from being a homophobic slur, no one wants Tony sucking their dick.
