In Japan, hey don't have Wal-Mart. They don't have shopping malls. They don't have The Gap. No, they only have this: The Pokemon Pokecenter.Yes, popping up all over that tiny, weird island are Pokecenters, enormous retail stores that sell tons and tons of Pokemon merchandise. You can get Pokemon jackets, toys, video games, plushies, DS cases, trading cards, candy, and even school supplies!
Now, all that is well and good, but what if you're in Japan and need to quickly increase your level? Can you buy a Rare Candy?!
But if Pokemon is just as big, if not bigger, here in America than it is in Japan, why aren't there any stores here in America?
The thing is, there are a few, two to be precise, but they're both in Seattle, Washington. Turns out, the American-wing of the Pokemon Company, along with Nintendo of America itself, is located in Seattle. So they're not really trying to expand these stores nationwide - they're not really putting any effort into them at all. It seems the only people the Pokemon Company are asking to open Pokecenters are those within earshot.
Here's an unreasonably long video of the Pokemon Center. While it's a pretty rad store, but before you watch it, see if you can turn the saturation down on your monitor.

Not really a news, but i think it's interesting for sure.

Popularity = cash.
They've been there for awhile.
Haven't these things been around since like the year 2000. There was even one in NYC at one point.
yeah these are years old. There was also one in New York, but now its just a Nintendo Store.
Call me when they sell real pokemon.
I went to the NYC one back when Ruby and Sapphire just came out.
They converted it into "Nintendo World".
Anyway, yes, they have had Pokemon Centers for a long while now.
*ninja'ed

It's still there. Just, now, it's the Nintendo World store.

Shit was so cash when it was just a Pokemon Center. Now, there's just a portion of it dedicated to the series.
I have the sudden urge to run into one of those stores with a dog in my arms and run to the counter and scream, "I JUST LOST A BATTLE AND MY POKEMON'S HURT I NEED HELP!"
I like how it has the music from the game :D
Pokemon themed stores
Groundbreaking
This is how I imagine Japan
Went to the one in Tokyo last month, it was awesome. I cried tears of joy.
I have to go to one of these things
I thought it was going to be styled as one from the game. Aw :(
Aww, those plushies are really cute!
Wait, woah woah woah, hold on, where the fuck are the Slowking plushies!?
And if you're going to have mostly Gen 5 Pokemon, at least have the Beatles dragon! And get rid of Heatran, nobody wants a fucking Heatran. And
Is that a tiny deer in a top hat?
All is forgiven.
10 years late but still really fuckin cool
Uh, really don't know why you'd link this article, it's full of misinformation and it's not news that Pokemon Centre themed stores exist.
They've been around for a long time and usually aren't very big.
(Also, wtf? Japan is not a single island, and isn't a particularly small country)
Should have made them Poké Marts
lrn2lore
Those have been around for a really long time, like it has been said.
I'd really like to go to one of those stores one day, my sister would love a few plushies

Hey man, Heatran was awesome

I wonder if Pokemon type things will ever exist in the future due to Science.
Why is it a Pokécenter when they don't heal Pokémon
I was in the Yokohama one about two years ago. Nice place but christ almighty is everything overpriced. I'm not paying 3500 yen for a hat.

Just in case you're too lazy to look up the exchange rates, that's about $44 USD or €35.80, which is just outrageous for a hat.

TF2
The last picture even says Christmas 2007, so I'm not sure how you didn't notice it was late.
That's still pretty cool, though.
I remember passing one of these in yokohama. Outside were a bunch of kids trading/battling with their DS.
They should somehow add a veterinary to it

I find it incredibly unsatisfactory that they have never made Aggron plushies
Aggrons are huggable as fuck, everybody would buy one
