What a manly man
old and untrue title
I would have shit and pissed myself and then i would have started crying like a baby.
It's probably just the gasses or whatever guns extrude who blew the hat of, not the bullet.
It's probably just the gasses or whatever guns extrude who blew the hat of, not the bullet.
This they're firing blanks. It's a ceremony. When you fire live rounds into the air they come back down somewhere and they have been known to kill. It happens quite often in countries like Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan where they often shoot firearms in the air during celebration.
Blanks are not harmless, neither is the force of a barrel close to the head.
Blanks are not harmless, neither is the force of a barrel close to the head.
Basically, this. I don't know why so many people believe just because it's blank ammo it's harmless. You can easily pepper someones skin with carbon debris just a few feet away and that's not even taking into account the muzzle blast which can kill you if at point blank.
Blanks are not harmless, neither is the force of a barrel close to the head.
The rifle doesn't appear to be within kill range for a blank. The escaping scalding hot gasses cause the damage and the length it's traveling is about 2 feet (this is all assuming that they are all in the same stance as each other as the front line appears to be). By the time it hits his head it's just a warm rush of air and not fire.

Oh boy this late video again, I can't wait for 50 pages of people not knowing how guns work saying silly shit while people who know their shit get their comments buryed and the same retarded comments and questions just repeat each other until thankfully the thread dies.
I'm sure you're an expert on this
You don't need to be, just think about it for a moment. As the fire caused by firing the blank escapes out into the open it spreads out and takes in more and more oxygen which causes the fire/explosion to dissipate. Considering that ammunition in general do not have much in them, over 2 feet the escaping gas and fire would dissipate relatively quickly.
i'm pretty sure he's okay considering he's not dead or screaming in pain
He's polish. Bullets don't make us cry, spilling alcohol on the other hand...
I remember watching a doco on film special effects and they showed off the damage blank rounds can do.. they sure as hell can kill point blank. EDIT Also not long ago I saw a news article where a kid was killed by a blank shot fired from a pistol in a stage musical.

While the gas and fire may not have been in range to kill him, fragments are dangerous and can pierce skin.
I think we can all agree on one thing. Having a gun go off behind you, blanks or no blanks, should scare the living shit out of anyone and the fact that he didn't so much as flinch shows that he has some pretty big balls.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blank_%28cartridge%29#Safety I don't think you should spread safety lies, just because you "think" your right. While the gas and fire may not have been in range to kill him, fragments are dangerous and can pierce skin.
considering that this is a ceremony they are most likely using ceremonial rifles which are in top top prime, and clean condition. So there would be no barrel fragments that can fly out of the muzzle. As for the paper fragments wooden fragments within the blanks themselves... you are correct, but with ceremonial weapons that chance is severely minimized. In no way did i spread "safety lies" nor did i say i "think" i'm right. What i said in my previous post is a fact. As the explosion leaves the muzzle flash, oxygen is quickly eaten by the expanding gases until it eats to much up and dissipates into the air. Over two feet with just one blank round, that gives enough for the gases to dissipate especially since the blank doesn't have anything holding in the pressure whilst still in the barrel, like a bullet, the possible wads of paper and wood wouldn't even hold in the pressure like a bullet would. In no way am i condoning or have condoned that blanks are safe, they are far from it and the 3 rules of gun safety still apply here. I just typed this long wall of text simply because your post came off as assholishly condescending to me. I bid this thread and you, my sir, adieu.
Mysteryman was referring to kill range anyhow when he replied to Warborq originally, which is correct. The worst it could do is some minor bruising any deaths or severe injuries caused by blanks occur at an extremely close range and that seems to synchronize with the facts from Wikipedia. I don't see the problem, whats the big deal anyway :v:.

I don't see the problem, whats the big deal anyway :v:.
Blank cartridges frequently contain a paper, wood or plastic plug called a wad which seals the powder in the case. This wad can cause "severe" penetrating wounds at "close range" and bruising at medium ranges. There is also the phenomenon of "muzzle blast" - the cloud of hot, expanding gas expelled at extremely high velocity from the muzzle of the firearm. These high velocity gases can inflict "severe" injuries (see powerhead for an example) at "close ranges". And that's close range, not point blank. Take account of it being a hit to the head also. Just because it only lists 2 famous people with fatal accidents, doesn't mean that there isn't alot more. albeit it is a little strange it only lists Brandon Lee since that was a real bullet, and Jon-Erik Hexum pointed a fucking Magnum to his temple. I'd say this had a high risk of being fatal, a wound to the back of the head from an angle.
Well, you see, shut the fuck up you two aren't getting anywhere.
Why does it matter Warborq the guy seems perfectly fucking fine, seriously.
