Sadly, that's right. I've tried the beta and I was really surprised by it. I expected age of farmville, but it really isn't. The matches play almost exactly like classic AOE, and that is complimented by the 'quest city' where you have your own city and you receive quests or missions if you prefer, you build buildings which let you buy and craft items that affect your units stats once equiped, you move through the tech tree there, it really compliments the traditional skirmish AOE with some rpg elements.
Sad thing, unless you are premium you can't equip items of a certain quality, DLC, and probably some more crap, so it really kills the game in some sort of way.
Still worth a try while it's in beta, shit's free!
Ive been playing this with my cousin and we reckon it is pretty cool.
Only problem is you have a shitload of people spamming chat to buy or sell items, supposedly a auction house is coming out to get rid of that problem.
The gameplay is pretty simple and the customisation of weapons and armour for your units is pretty beast, I would like to try out the Egyptians but i don't think it's possible to play them yet?
Im level 19 between.
The basic gameplay feels like a true AoE game, and I like how equipment affects units aesthetically. I don't think I'll be playing this game when it releases though, cause no matter what they say about no micro transactions, the "premium" thing feels very, very weird. They tried to justify how its not game breaking, but a Star Tech (only available to premium users) adds passive enhancements to a specific unit (e.g. Battering Ram with +30% move speed).
The Star Techs are only available when reaching tier 4 (Level 20 & above), but obviously a level 40 premium user battling a level 40 normal user will have advantage because their [s]penis[/s]battering ram or other units with Star Tech being faster, and more damaging. (also more HP, more defence rating, longer attack range, and faster WOLOLO if you add Rare/Epic equipment).
Advisors giving you an unique fortress unit (and only for premium users) also feels imbalance, especially when the Epic version gives you a buffed version of the unique unit.
What I want to know:
- Is there a hard limit on how many Star Techs can be taken, or only limited by your skill points?
- Does Epic equipment (and unique units) have a cons in them, like increased unit price?
brb, going to play AOE 3 online.
If its out im going to look if it's good, i stop direct if its another facebookalike-internet game.
