Destiny is the biggest new IP launch ever in the UK, official figures have confirmed.Sales during launch week beat out those of Ubisoft's Watch Dogs, the previous record holder. Destiny went on sale on Tuesday, 9th September 2014. The PlayStation 4 version took a 46 per cent share of the sales (this figure includes sales of new fixed hardware bundles in both black and white). Xbox One took 36 per cent, Xbox 360 14 per cent and PlayStation 3 four per cent. If you combine all versions of the game, physical PlayStation and Xbox sales are split 50/50. Chart-Track sales figures do not include download copies. Destiny is also the biggest video game launch of 2014 in the UK so far. Here's the top five: Destiny Watch Dogs Titanfall Wolfenstein: The New Order Infamous: Second Son Officially Destiny is the 17th biggest video game launch ever in the UK, behind only games in the Call of Duty, FIFA, Battlefield and Grand Theft Auto series.
Read more on Eurogamer! And if you'd like to talk more about Destiny, visit the MEGATHREAD!
Wow new-gen sales are a lot higher than I expected, 82% of total
"Despite being unable to advertise" Huh?
"Despite being unable to advertise" Huh?
Microsoft wasn't allowed to advertise Destiny for the Xbox One or Xbox 360, which why whenever you see an ad for the game it'll only show the Playstation versions because of the deal Sony and Activision had.
Any reason as to why they couldn't?
Sony paid a lot of money.
Because of the deal Sony and Activision had, which included special/timed(?) content for the Playstation versions.
Any reason as to why they couldn't?
Same reason lots of multi-plats last gen were only advertised for 360.
Personally thing that it's a bit underhand to do that, and what did it accomplish? nothing. Companies need to stop spending so much damn money on advertising and maybe they would start to save themselves. A good example of this is the tobacco industry, they where starting to loose profits before the ban on advertising, and what happened after? they saved billions by not advertising and their sales stayed the same because the advertising from rival brands cancelled each other out.

Watch Dogs is a good example. Their advertisement budgets was enormous, and it paid off. Sadly the game was pretty sub par on expectations.

Its one of those games that were more enjoyable the less you were hyped about it. I played the shit out of it but I only saw one trailer for it and pretty much nothing else.
And 60% of the sales were Play Station sales. Terrible math, eurogamer.

Shit that's almost funny. [editline]16th September 2014[/editline]
And 60% of the sales were Play Station sales.
