Didn't personally know the kid but I only hear good things about him. Sad that shit like this happens. The family and the community is disappointed in the response from the police, however there was nothing the police could do, once it's out there it's out there... They gave him 48 hours to muster up the money, 2 days later he is home alone (I assume) and the Nigerians sent censored photo's to some of his friends stating something along the lines of "Tell your friend to pay up or we are sending out uncensored photos" The father got warned about it by one of his sons friends and raced home to make sure his son is okay but at that time it was too late, he was gone.

Since it's close to 1000000 (an even number), and since it's fluctuated anyway since the story went down, that makes me suspect they might still be thinking in terms of Nigerian currency, and therefore perhaps live there. "Give me 3300 pounds" is an odd amount to demand.

It's terrible that they prey on a kid like this. Because I mean kids at that age are the ones most vulnerable to this type of threat made in this way and yet they're also the least likely to be able to pay up because of their situation, still being in school and so probably not working. The saddest part is this kid was only a few years away from maturing to the point we all reach in adulthood where you realize you really are completely alone in the world because nobody really gives a fuck what you say, do, think, feel, look like, how you act, etc. Nobody cares, they have their own adult shit to be concerned with. Like "oh hey that's x's dick on facebook" and then forget about it five minutes later. But I mean for a kid in high school, from his perspective, it's the end of the world because that shit matters to him. He still thinks high school matters, at that age. I mean hell nowadays if someone threatened me with distributing pictures of my cock, I'd just ignore it. At that age, it really doesn't matter how insignificant or inconsequential it is. Because even if it was something [I]major[/I], a mature adult still isn't going to let it affect them in such a way. But I mean a kid, you just don't realize yet that it doesn't matter what anyone knows or thinks about you, so any insignificant detail that they knew personally affected him would've worked. Although yeah you do have a point that it could have been something major. We don't know really. In respect to his family, the material itself probably wouldn't get published. However, even if it wasn't major, while I do see what you're saying that it's not worth killing yourself over, sure that makes sense to rational adults, but the decision-making part of his brain wasn't developed that far yet. I mean it says in the article that he talked to his mom, so surely she told him all this and said just what I said, that it really doesn't matter and when you get older it will be like it never even happened, but that sort of logic sometimes doesn't make any sense to someone at that age. It depends on their emotional state.
