Nice first post.
For a moment I thought I was gonna get flamed for video being a first post.
That is the most adorable thing I've ever seen. My only encounter with owls was sadly not so nice - I accidentally strayed too close to an owl nest once and the mom owl knocked me on the head with her claws like I was just a big brown coconut. It hurt :(
Why is it your first post though?
To share the love
I want an owl.
Sooo cute. Little bathing owl!
How do I get an owl?
O_O owl's eyes always get me
Their eyes kind of creep me out though.
that owl looks fucked up on drugs
Does this look like the face of a drugged animal?
I want an owl.
No you don't.
How do I get an owl?
In the States' it requires a Falconry license, as well as being apprenticed to an existing Falconer. Please don't, way too many people already go into falconry "Cuz' I want an eagle!"
Reminds me of my parrot, acts in a similar way and is amazing how they can become so familiar with human contact.
this adorable feathery bastard has its own channel here I love this one
Their eyes kind of creep me out though.
You want creepy eyes? how about Insects? Their eyes always give me serious chills every time I see them up close. But back on the topic, nice first post Boxlord. Remember to lurk often, it will help your post quality. Also, have a Snowy Owl. Maybe these guys are more than capable and willing to take care of such creatures.
O_O owl's eyes always get me
They kinda creep me out 'cuz they can watch you with both eyes at once and that's not a thing birds are supposed to be able to do.
in the UK apparently there was a huge craze in people buying owls because of the Harry Potter movies. a lot of those owls ended up being abandoned or left to die due to owners getting bored of them and not looking after them
That's probably 75% of falconers that actually get their license. In the States' you are required(!!) to take your bird out 2 time daily (every day, yes, for each bird) to go hunting. Most people don't have the time for this, so after a year or more, they release their bird... Which usually can't fend for itself because: Falconers have to either: A. Steal a baby from it's nest B. Catch a Fledgling C. Catch an Adult. to get their falcons. And only the last one has even a chance, since it will have learned to live in the wild; but will probably die anyway, because falconers have to keep their falcons hungry constantly (so they hunt...).
Come on dude, what the hell kind of response is that? Maybe these guys are more than capable and willing to take care of such creatures.
Not saying people can't, but it's a fuckton of upkeep: in fact, I'd go so far as to say the only "Falconing" I'm OK with is Education licensees - Since a number of those birds are ones that have been rescued from death, and can no longer live in the wild. Plus they aren't forced to be starves (since Education birds aren't used for hunting...) That's my main reason for saying "No.", nobody that has to work, has a life, or can't handle that requirements should not own a falcon: that simple. I don't know about the situation In Japan, but if it was similar to the States, they either own that bird Illegally, or have an education license.
