Wow, STAR_ can make a compelling argument when he wants to.

Interesting point, and I'm glad that somebody said it. It's awful that so many people disregard Overwatch (or any other game for that matter) because of generalized brand similarity. Wow, turret? TF2 did it first. Won't bother. He accurately identifies the symptoms of a broader cultural disparity while keeping it topical. I can appreciate that.

He's not dismissing the argument that Overwatch is very similar to TF2. Rather, he's saying that it might actually be a good thing but that it's not a guarantee of success either. He's also showing that Blizzard is fully willing to adopt some of the tropes and conventions of TF2 directly instead of pretending they didn't exist before by renaming them (which would be an insult to our collective intelligence). If you say to a TF2 player "There's payload and point capture in Overwatch" he'll know exactly how to play the gamemode which is a great asset.
criticism of Valve is too true. They're more focused on steam, the steambox, and how they can absorb existing ideas to perfectly fit their "$2.50 key for community-generated content" game model than actually creating something new.
Coming from a tf2 player, it looks really cool.
I think a lot of people forget that having something similar is not necessarily a bad thing; tf2 has good ideas for a shooter and if you're making something similar to it, what are you supposed to do, not have those good ideas just because something else has them?
Yea it reminds a lot of people about TF2, but it's not some indie company going for a straight cash grab. The guy in the video brought of Final combat which was a complete rip off of TF2.
This takes aspects of TF2 and mixes with Blizzard's elements. The reaper, which people are most likely relating the spy to it, looks fun. Popping up behind people and shooting them, I'd enjoy that gameplay.
I feel like this game is going to be fun, it'll also draw in a lot of TF2 players because of the similarities, and it will ~possibly~ keep a heavy tf2 player base because of these similarities, as well as having Blizzard's elements added into the game.
I'll definitely try this game out because I do think it could be fun, especially with friends.
I fucking love Torbjorn.
Because Blizzard is good at Dwarves.
And Dwarves that build guns kick ass.
I like his point about TF2 being confusing because of the massive amount of items. I stopped playing it a couple years ago after having like 1000 hours or more on it and it must have like a 1000 new weapons in it. It's genuinely insane.

New guns and stuff slowed down heavily when valve transitioned their focus elsewhere.

And there's still at least 50 hats for every weapon in TF2.
I hope overwatch is going to have a high skill ceiling, that's the only thing that would get me heavily invested in it.

To be honest, that's what will probably keep me in TF2 and not play Overwatch. I like the fact that the 9 classes can actually fill multiple roles instead of creating a new class for every role.

Also, STAR's been going on 'TF2 is Over' rant for awhile now.
[editline]12th November 2014[/editline]
Also his point about people playing Blizzard games because Blizzard is exactly the reason why I'm skeptical of Blizzard games just like I am of any VALVE related thing.
Great, company has a reputation, I've watch both rest on their laurels and not actually do anything new up until recently.

Just saying, Valve pushes out pretty consistent updates to Dota2 and CS:GO. September saw a new hero released, a bunch of huge changes, and a remodel. CS:GO just got a giant content patch (expansion?) yesterday. Valve have merely embraced a model for increased community development, and I think that's pretty cool.
Him mentioning that Valve is now a hardware company is kinda a bucket of cold water to Valve fans, but true nonetheless.
He has a good point: I stopped playing TF2 after they introduced new weapons. It wasn't engaging for me anymore, and classes I was previously used to playing had a new learning curve. I'm unfortunately a slow learner and pretty much got my shit stomped.

People seriously need to realize this, especially on here. The amount of fanboys on here is high, but understandable due to the origins of the site. Their change in shift to multiplayer and hardware has been their downfall imho.
His point at 2:00 sucks
We've heard very little about the game so far and they could go down the tf2 route with having load outs and stuff. TF2 had the "very clearly defined classes" at launch

That's great.
Guess what it sure as shit doesn't have now and won't have when Overwatch launches.

They've explicitly said they're not going to give the characters extra weapons and the like.
Ever since TF2 became F2P the game has been going to shit, I'm excited for Overwatch and hopefully it knocks down Valve a peg or two.
"mitsurugi from soul calibur with a bow"
spot on
I like TF2, but I'll still be keeping an eye on Overwatch. Why choose when you can have both?
Financially...that's about it.
I think its silly to be an Overwatch fanboy or hater at this stage. Lets see what gets made out of it, ill be following its development atleast

Don't really agree with that. Valve does a lot of different stuff that interests different players. Last year was mostly about growing Dota 2 and CS:GO. I'm sure that they have new games in the works but as always they work on Valve Time. Point is: the games industry ticks really fast nowadays. You get major titles of major franchises like AssCreed and CoD on a yearly basis. It makes companies like Valve look slow while they're actually going at the same pace they've always been going.

That is factually wrong. 2014 is the first year in 10 years when Valve haven't released a new game.
