If you are one of those people who like mixing real science with the bullshit kind that can only be cranked out in movies, this is the movie for you.

Brief Intro
In Summer 199x, a very large group of storm cells move over Oklahoma and a region known as Tornado Alley. A group of storm chasers (Jo, "Dusty" Davis, Robert "Rabbit" Nurick, Laurence, Joey, Alan Sanders, Tim "Beltzer" Lewis, Haynes, and Jason "Preacher" Rowe) take this moment to attempt to deploy their revolutionary tornado instrumentation package aptly named DOROTHY (Which in real science is paying respect to NSSL's TOTO (I c wat u did thar) ) whose core job is to deploy hundreds of little spherical sensors into the funnel of a tornado and gather data.
To do this, chaser Dr. Jo Harding and retired chaser and her ex-husband Bill Harding [sp]who only got dragged into this because he left the divorce papers in her truck and he's jealous of Jonas and DOT 3[/sp] have to get in front of an oncoming tornado, activate the pack, get it off the truck and get the hell out of the way.
After a false start they discover that a rival and far more cash-strapped group of chasers (lead by Jonas Miller) have blatently copied DOROTHY and named it DOT 3. Whoever gets their pack up in the air first will determine who will go down in history with the scientific breakthroughs that will result from the data that would be collected from their respective instrument pack, all the while Bill has to deal with his fiancée Dr. Melissa Reeves who follows along with them.
I could probably drag on about the movie but that would freaking spoil it so just find it and watch it.
Fun Facts :eng101:
-In the movie [sp]a tornado rips through a drive-in theater[/sp]. On May 21, 1996 this actually happened to a [sp]drive-in theater[/sp] located just outside Stoney Creek, Ontario. It was scheduled to even play the movie Twister later that night as well but an urban legend has exaggerated this into the movie actually playing when the tornado hit.
-Several times during the movie you will see a granite/white laptop which bears the name Silicon Graphics on it. It's fun to point out that Silicon Graphics never actually made a laptop and this is merely a very expensive mock-up that was made by Silicon Graphics just for the movie. The LCD connected to a Silicon Graphics computer that was off-camera.
-A museum relating entirely to the movie exists in Wakita, OK. DOROTHY I sits in the window sill.
Science :science:
-As mentioned, DOROTHY and DOT 3 are based off the TOTO pack that through the 1980's was unsuccessfully deployed and never flew.
-The Basic data that DOROTHY was to collect is actually gathered today and is collected in the form of probes, portable doppler units, and in only one occasion, by a camera.
This has to me one of my favorite movies of all time.
Also, isn't this loosely based off of the tornado outbreak that happened on April 1974?

This movie is awesome, used to watch this all the time when I was a kid.
Saw this in theaters way back then with my dad, it was a blast.
Love this one! Used to watch it when i was younger all the time! Even saw it at a drive-in, which scared the crap outta me when i was like 6 when the twister came to the drive in!
I always watch this film when it's on TV. Absolute classic.
Damn you, I thought it was a movie about the very awesome ice-cream :(
Love this movie so much.
The twister sucking up the screen with "Here's Johnny" on it was genius.
Nostalgia critic reviewed it. I haven't really watched it tho
hmm

i loved this movie
"I gotta go Julia we got cows!"
I hated this movie! I thought it was just all effects and no story.

Honestly, I couldn't stand it....I'd rather watch "Stormchasers" instead; at least it's real.

I just noticed this but about the nine second mark, look in the right side of the rear window and you see a van driving down the road in the opposite direction
Yeah this movie has so many noticeable mistakes.
Like the guy in the back when they burst out of the fire.
And how the windshield always fixes itself.
This movie was awesome.
Hated this movie as a kid mainly because it scared me, but i think it's a realy well done movie.

"Another cow."
"I think that was the same one."
:gonk:
The twist to this movie is that there is a Tornado. Why spoiler tag it?
