The sales are part of a Facebook campaign to make the Judy Garland song hit No.1 after the death of Margaret Thatcher. Other anti-Thatcher songs have also been reactivated on British iTunes, including Elvis Costello’s Tramp the Dirt Down at No.93.
Well, that's mature.
Well, it's going to be awkward to explain this on Radio 1 on Sunday
it really is a bunch of people who want to look impressively ‘political’ acting like they remember Thatcher as something other than a vague abstract concept of evil. The worst thing about Mrs Thatcher was her lack of humanity, empathy or emotion. That’s why it’s great that she’s succumbed to dementia after what would have been a long, frustrating and humiliating illness of the type commonly affecting elderly people. The fucking old cow.
There have been parties in several cities too, including in Bristol where 7 police officers were injured when violence broke out
Thatcher hate is pop culture, just go check out all the punk rock songs about hating her.
a few of my british friends went around the university campus last night blaring that song till they got told by campus police to leave.
I bet America won't act like this when Bush Jr. dies.
I bet America won't act like this when Bush Jr. dies.
Looking at your parties for Bin Laden I wouldn't put it past them.
I wonder how many of them were adults during her terms or is simply an angsty teenager.
I bet America won't act like this when Bush Jr. dies.
Nowhere near the same thing.
I bet America won't act like this when Bush Jr. dies.
No, they only reserve street celebrations for extrajudicial killings of boogiemen.
Looking at your parties for Bin Laden I wouldn't put it past them.
Bin Laden lead to the deaths of several thousand Americans, we get criticized for celebrating. Thatcher was your own Prime Minister and it's okay.
Bin Laden lead to the deaths of several thousand Americans, we get criticized for celebrating.
Death? Don't you mean killing? The killing of Bin Laden.
Bin Laden lead to the deaths of several thousand Americans, we get criticized for celebrating. Thatcher was your own Prime Minister and it's okay.
the reason for this is that bin laden was literally assassinated, whereas thatcher just popped her clogs of old age. if she was murdered people would not be celebrated.

There was some students going around Glasgow yesterday handing out free glasses of milk.
when america celebrated the death of bin laden, they were approving state assassination. when people celebrate margaret thatcher's death, they are celebrating her death, because she died of natural causes.
the reason for this is that bin laden was literally assassinated, whereas thatcher just popped her clogs of old age. if she was murdered people would not be celebrated.
There would be an absolute outrage if some aging IRA nutjob assassinated a old frail women at the Ritz, even it was Thatcher.
Idk, I'm not British, I mean i dont think its right to say yay to someones death they're a human being, she wasn't like Stalin or Adolf fuckin Hitler, she didn't go out killing everyone in her sight, sure she fucked up a lot but that doesn't mean shes pure satan work

One of the protest signs I saw read "RIP old woman but death to your legacy".
Well, that's mature.
For people to go this far, they probably hate her quite a lot. And she does sound like piss evil. She did worser stuff than our PM here, and everyone HATES our PM. He hasn't finished his term and he's already being kicked out for the shit he does. If Thatcher's death spawns all this celebration, then she must have been pure evil.
the reason for this is that bin laden was literally assassinated, whereas thatcher just popped her clogs of old age. if she was murdered people would not be celebrated.
Sounds to me like you're trying to justify the celebration of someone's death, an unfortunate death that affects close relatives. The fact she was reelected 3 times and brought Britain into a economic boom like it has never seen is a testament to her work, and she stood by her princibles unlike other jellied spined MP's I have witnessed in the past. I'm not using socialist as a slur either.
I remember when Margaret became the PM. I also viewed a lovely interview with her that was recorded sometime shortly after she was elected, it was on the telly in the 1970s. She seemed like such a charming character and extremely likeable, but her policies and behavior in office left much to be desired. She was a great leader, but a terrible PM.
Sounds to me like you're trying to justify the celebration of someone's death, an unfortunate death that affects close relatives.
wow thank you for the large assumption and borderline strawman argument no. i'm not. i'm saying they're incomparable because bin laden was shot under orders of obama, whereas thatcher died merely of old age. you can't compare them.
Britain: no better at celebrating people's deaths than Iraq or Iran.
Thankfully our stonings are a bit different.
