tl;dr north carolina had state-controlled sterilization processes directed towards black rape victims. one of them, elaine riddick, calls it being 'raped by the state of NC'
RALEIGH - At 57, Elaine Riddick has a house full of god children, great nieces and nephews, but only one child of her own - a son. When she was 14, Riddick was raped. The day she gave birth, doctors sterilized her on orders from the state of North Carolina. "They said that I was feeble-minded, they said that I was promiscuous," Riddick tells CBS News correspondent Kelly Cobiella. Riddick was one of nine children, poor, from a broken home. Her illiterate grandmother signed the sterilization papers with an "x." "I've always been able to take care of myself - I've never been promiscuous," Riddick says. "So how can people use these things to describe a child that had been abandoned? Or that had been raped by the neighbor and then again, raped by the state of North Carolina." What happened to Riddick in North Carolina happened to more than 60,000 people in 32 states, from the 1920's to the 1970s under state-sanctioned sterilization programs aimed at cutting welfare costs. "The people who were the focus of this movement were the dispossessed of society," says Paul Lombardo, of Georgia State University's College of Law. "In some cases, simply people of color." North Carolina is the first state to consider making amends with a cash payment - $20,000 for each victim. For Riddick, it's not nearly enough to make up for a lifetime of regrets and emotional scars. "I am mad! I am mad! And I'm tired of hiding my feelings and I want everyone to know what, who should pay." Most of the sterilization laws, including North Carolina's, were written to give states immunity from lawsuits. North Carolina would have to set aside $69 million to pay all of the surviving victims. That's something lawmakers have not yet been willing to do. despicable
At 57, Elaine Riddick has a house full of god children, great nieces and nephews
Shit, maybe they can make her fertile again But really that's fucked up
Good they should do this to poor people today. As long as its not racially motivated. (User was banned for this post ("Think about your posting habits." - Seiteki))
I can't believe a law like this even passed, in 32 states even. But then again, it was the 20's-70's, what can you do. :frown:
I can actually agree with the idea of sterilization if the person has had, say, six kids in as many years, but one kid.... SHE WAS FUCKING RAPED! How is that fucking promiscuous?
Wait what? This kind of thing happens here?
Sterilizing? A raped 14 year old? And then tell her she's a whore? God damn. This is just downright evil. :colbert:
Good they should do this to poor people today. As long as its not racially motivated.
Can't you at least troll consistently?
Oh, US of A.... you and your racism-motivated laws and regulations... when are you gonna learn.
Sterilizing? A raped 14 year old? And then tell her she's a whore? God damn. This is just downright evil. :colbert:
Yeah that was really fucking low of them.
This isn't really news. These steralisations have taken place over several decades in both America and Europe. Still, I'm glad they are making amends with the victims, and recognising their past mistakes.
You'd have to be pure evil to defend this.
This is like stubbing your toe then getting it cut off because people think your clumsy.
WHAT THE FUCK. Just... Just... WHAT. THE. FUCK.
Can't you at least troll consistently?
I'm not trolling, your trolling.
I'm not trolling, your trolling.
what about his trolling
Good they should do this to poor people today. As long as its not racially motivated.
:wtc: [editline]23rd June 2011[/editline] how is sterilization legal in any way how is it possible that an adult can sign away a childs right to reproduce for the rest of their life
That doesn't even make sense. Why would you get sterilized for being raped?
On the bright side, at least it looks like the gumment realizes that it was wrong, hence the reparations.
Punishing the victim! yay!
Punishing the victim! yay!
obviously she asked for it
This is like stubbing your toe then getting it cut off because people think your clumsy.
Well, in this case they did it to save on welfare so there was a motive. Your example doesn't have much of a motive. It's still despicable and I do see what you were trying to say.

You don't have to worry about pulling out with her. You can creampie her with no shame.
Doesn't this count as eugenics?
You don't have to worry about pulling out with her. You can creampie her with no shame.
what's coming up next in your comedy routine, a dead baby joke?
You don't have to worry about pulling out with her. You can creampie her with no shame.
you nasty stupid fuck. i hope scientists recreate dinosaurs like in jurassic park, so you can involved in very brutal butt sex with a dinosaur, ripping your asshole open in the process. then you acquire some form of AIDS and die a death with your asshole ripped open big enough for someone to put their head inside of.
I feel bad to live in this state now.
welcome to america
:wtc: [editline]23rd June 2011[/editline] how is sterilization legal in any way how is it possible that an adult can sign away a childs right to reproduce for the rest of their life
Diminished capacity, powers of attorney, all sorts of fun stuff exists, not sure what NC calls it though. Unless you mean "why", not "how", ala "how did a group of people decide to make this a thing you could legally do", which is because not everyone realized eugenics was a terrible idea after WWII, and some fuckwits in power used a state eugenics program in an attempt to damage NC's black population during the civil rights movement. It's possible because racists in positions of power do insane shit.
Good they should do this to poor people today. As long as its not racially motivated.
:frog:
