Charla Nash, 57, was blinded and lost her hands when she was mauled by a friend's pet chimpanzee in 2009. "I will now be able to do things I once took for granted," she said in a statement. I will be able to kiss and hug loved ones. I am tremendously grateful to the donor and her family. Charla Nash "I will be able to smell. I will be able to eat normally. I will no longer be disfigured. "I will have lips and will speak clearly once again. I will be able to kiss and hug loved ones. I am tremendously grateful to the donor and her family." In the attack, Ms Nash lost her eyes, nose, upper jaw and lips as well as most of the soft tissue in her face and her hands. The animal was eventually shot and killed by police. An anonymous female donor provided the material which made the surgery possible. The hand transplant was initially deemed to have been a success, but complications meant the hands later had to be removed. Doctors have said they might try the operation again if a suitable donor is found. The first successful partial face transplant was performed in France in 2005 on Isabelle Dinoire, a 38-year-old woman who was mauled by a dog, but a full-face transplant was only attempted in Spain in 2010. Around a dozen of the operations have been carried out in China, the US and Spain.
http://news.sky.com/home/world-news/article/16048669 FUCK YEAH MEDICAL SCIENCE.
Science!
Wow... They are much better at this now than a few years ago.
Wow... They are much better at this now than a few years ago.
Ah ... but that's the Scientific creed.

This is amazing. Just amazing. Science and medicine is awesome.
Was this the chick that was on Opera? I'd check the pic but i'd rather not see that mess again.
I guess all she needs now is to hit the threadmill a bit more.
I guess all she needs now is to hit the threadmill a bit more.
I don't think you realise just how happy she is with getting a normal face back.
Is this the same woman who's face looked like it had collapsed in on itself? If so this is a massive improvement, well done to the surgeons.
I've always kind of wanted a monkey as a pet, but unfortunately I don't own any firearm or some good weapon incase the monkey goes crazy and tries to eat my face.
That would feel weird to look at a mirror with a totally different face. At least she has a face. This reminds me of Face/Off.
How does a chimp manage to do that kind of damage?
That would feel weird to look at a mirror with a totally different face. At least she has a face. This reminds me of Face/Off.
Shes blind.
Chimps are fucking assholes
How does a chimp manage to do that kind of damage?
Monkeys are fucking strong, dude.
Monkeys are fucking strong, dude.
Strong enough to rip your hands off apparently.
That would feel weird to look at a mirror with a totally different face. At least she has a face. You'd look different for sure, but for the most part you'd recognize your own face in there.
Strong enough to rip your hands off apparently.
Actually they bite them off. Their favorite targets are the face, hands and of course genitals.
This is why we need to exterminate the other primates before they get uppity and try to steal our thunder.
monkeys are like people with downs to put it simply
Maybe people should just stop fucking around with monkeys. They will literally bite your face, dick and hands off. I don't think I could be more weary of an animal over one which is capable of biting off your face and dick.
Chimps are fucking assholes
It's not entirely the chimp's fault. The woman who owned it dressed it up in human clothes, treated it like a human and not an animal and I think the chimp was even on anti-depressants. On top of all that, the bitch wouldn't let him have a ride in the car when he wanted.

Even if they have a mate, they still can get violent; apparently, chimps aren't monogamous.
I'm never going to face a monkey without some sort of weapon
The real issue is the sexual frustration these chimps experience. Even if they have a mate, they still can get violent; apparently, chimps aren't monogamous.
It has a lot to do with the extremely strict social rules that Chimps have too. People have a habit of just bumbling around carelessly when around animals, and adult Chimps tend to deliver punishments that are a lot more severe than a Dog bite.
monkeys are like people with downs to put it simply
I've never seen a person with downs syndrome maul anyone, let alone rip off their face.
How does a chimp manage to do that kind of damage?
Chimps have around 5 times the strength of a human.
oh god... imagine the pain of getting all those parts of your face torn off. Upper jaw? FUCK.
It is pretty amazing. I wonder if anyone has thought to offer someone like Natalie Portman a deal like this: Megarich guy: "Natalie, I'm not saying anything is going to happen to you, but if it did would you be willing to donate your face for transplant? I'm not saying my wife is ugly but there's only so much botox in the world, amirite? I'd be willing to give you (nameyourprice) RIGHT NOW for the rights to your face." It'd be the next logical step in cosmetic surgery for the super wealthy.
