Dec 30 (Reuters) - As many as a dozen oil tank cars on a BNSF freight train were ablaze in eastern North Dakota on Monday after a collision with another train, state officials said.
The incident, which caused a large plume of dark smoke and at least 5 explosions just a mile outside of the small town of Casselton, occurred just after 2 p.m. central time, city officials said. There have been no reports of any injuries.
They really need to build the oil refineries in my city(Mandan) faster. In my two years living here, I have seen them replace the rail system in and around the city at least four to five times. These trains went from hauling coal and wheat to hauling massive oil tanks, and they are honestly not built for it.

Last time I checked their building a new refinery, and the refinery owner is already hiring people.
This is eerie, I was reading an article about how North Dakota towns are scared of derailment accidents with all the oil being transported on trains through there.
Wish I remembered where I read it!
Welp, which is it going to be... the controversy filled Keystone pipeline, or exploding trains?

... or a move to alternative fuel sources?

Ideally, yes.
Won't happen till those alternatives become profitable for the folks currently profiting from oil.
Their money is far too influential and consumer/industrial use is far too complacent.
-edit
ugh.
I have to add that that is my impression of it all. I'm not in a position to know the reality of it.
I feel folks would be pissed if you suddenly took their plastic and fuel away.
