http://thenextweb.com/insider/2015/01/15/obamas-proposed-hacking-law-unwittingly-make-criminal/
Next week, Obama is expected to unveil an update to the US’ CFAA law against hacking in a State of the Union address, hot on the tail of Sony’s massive hacking attack that unfolded in late 2014. A draft version of the new law has been published on the White House website and gives us a look into a scary future in which clicking a single link could make you complicit in committing a hacking crime. A letter accompanying the proposal dated January 13 introduces the new law to Congress for discussion. Remember when Sony wanted to sue Twitter (and individual users) who posted screenshots or links to its stolen data? According to Errata Security, these new laws could pin you as a “racketeer” who willingly participated in hacking if you were one of those users (or if you clicked one of those links); punishable by up to 10 years in jail.
If you want to sign the petition https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/stop-cyberlaw-hr4681/7YFddyYC
"these new laws could pin you as a “racketeer” who willingly participated in hacking if you were one of those users (or if you clicked one of those links); punishable by up to 10 years in jail." No it wouldn't. You can't be charged for breaking the law before it was a law, you're grandfathered in. Sensationalist bullshit.
Yeah... Obama really is trying to get killed is he not?
Yeah... Obama really is trying to get killed is he not?
You getting ideas, citizen? It's the cubes for you!
Yeah... Obama really is trying to get killed is he not?
why would you post something this stupid on a vaguely public forum

How is saying something like that stating I want to go after him? It's literally a more blunt, "He pissing a lot of people off with stupid shit like this"
How is saying something like that stating I want to go after him? It's literally a more blunt, "He pissing a lot of people off with stupid shit like this"
ok? but you jumped straight to thinking murder that is not a leap of logic normal persons make
The biggest criticism you can lobby against Obama is how full of shit he was/is about whistleblowers. During his first campaign he made it clear he supported whistleblowers. Ever since he's been in office, he's done nothing but take actions against whistleblowers completely wrecking that campaign promise. Sure, he held up a lot of promises, but the really important ones got left out.
How is saying something like that stating I want to go after him? It's literally a more blunt, "He pissing a lot of people off with stupid shit like this"
do you think the vehement anti-fed attitude and homemade explosives might have something do with this terrible misunderstanding of your character
Yeah... Obama really is trying to get killed is he not?
Garry is going to get called again.
ok? but you jumped straight to thinking murder that is not a leap of logic normal persons make
Have you ever heard the phrase, "XYZ needs to chill out before they get themselves killed!" it's a common phrase. I'm not sure exactly why you are over thinking this or why you are all jumping onto some bandwagon thinking I'm advocating for murder or assassination. I'm literally just stating that he's acting incredibly stupid and foolish and all he's accomplishing is pissing more people off.
"hello mr newman, this is the united states secret service, due to repeated threats the united states government is seizing facepunch.com" it will all be your fault joeskylynx
do you think the vehement anti-fed attitude and homemade explosives might have something do with this terrible misunderstanding of your character
I'm hardly anti-fed though. If that's the character I'm putting off, then yes I can easily understand, and I apologize, but all I'm saying is that Obama is acting incredibly foolish with what he's doing.
"hello mr newman, this is the united states secret service, due to repeated threats the united states government is seizing facepunch.com" it will all be your fault joeskylynx
Damn me, and my loud keyboard.

It just sounds flat out wrong. Unless we're talking about someone committing genocide / someone talking about literally locking X people up in mass, what you're saying is very out of hand and obviously going to get bad looks.
Yeah... Obama really is trying to get killed is he not?
Good job now garry is going to get another email.

I sorta just have used it for the most part as a cautionary saying for doing stupid/silly things.
I never knew that was the case, I do apologize. The CFAA is already one of the worst laws on the books. Naturally, because some douchebag movie studio was hacked, we should make it exponentially worse.
That's not true at all. Obama has signed into law more whistleblower protections than any other President in history and given would-be whistleblowers more options for reporting waste, fraud, and abuse and protection against retaliation. At the same time, he's also pushed prosecution of people who leak sensitive information without following those procedures. Make of that what you will, but he can't be said to have 'done nothing but take actions against whistleblowers'. In any case, the OP is sensationalist to the point of being inaccurate. The proposed law says that if you intentionally acquire and distribute sensitive information like passwords ('willfully traffics... knowing or having reason to know that a protected computer would be accessed or damaged') you could be considered liable. Don't go looking for access to sensitive files and you have literally nothing to fear. The article talks about it like it says that if you just talk about sensitive data or accidentally come in contact with it you're committing a crime, and there's nothing in the proposed legislation that comes even close to that.
Yeah... Obama really is trying to get killed is he not?
Despite what some people might be thinking, in general the law isn't entire senseless. The information in those leaks isn't public domain and considering the nature of the date, the people spreading the links, linking to it know this. While I know using real goods equivalents isn't often good, imagine this close to the following situation. Person a learns of a market where stolen goods are given out for free. He then tells others he meets about this amazing place, where you can get for free stuff someone stole.
