An Egyptian court has sentenced 10 supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood to death for alleged offences including inciting violence and blocking a road.
The men were not present to face the charges on Saturday and are believed to be in hiding amid a crackdown by the military-led government.
It was part of a mass trial of almost 50 people associated with the Muslim Brotherhood, including Abdul Rahman al-Barr, a member of the Brotherhood's guidance council.
He and other senior members will be sentenced at a hearing next month, Judge Hassan Fareed said.
The alleged offences happened during protests after the army toppled the elected President Mohamed Morsi in July 2013.
His party, the Muslim Brotherhood, has been banned and branded a terrorist group by the Government.
The death sentences will have to be approved by Egypt’s highest religious authority, the grand mufti, for review but it is considered a formality as the court can review or ignore his ruling.

Way to get your priorities straight.
How quickly do death sentences get carried out in Egypt? This reminds me of the 500-something Morsi supporters sentenced to death a while back.

from the little I know, not very fast.
So uh, FOX, what was that about the Arab Spring being a Muslim Brotherhood coup attempt at putting Sharia Law all over the Middle East? Seems like clearly the opposite's been going on.
Death sentences... So primitive, and what a bullshit trial too if they get that sentence for blocking roads.

it's a shame that the most peaceful upheaval of the arab spring has ended in some of the most bloodshed, syria aside.

Yeah, people weren't a fan of democracy when the party they didn't like won.
I'm strongly against the Muslim Brotherhood, but death sentences seem a bit harsh
I remember the Egyption ministers talking about attacking the US in a secret meeting (but left the webcam on), now look at them. Saving the world by killing road blockers

still, morsi was just as stagnant and useless as mubarak was.
the problem wasn't the overthrow of morsi, but the mistreatment of muslim brotherhood supporters following.

The most peaceful revolution was Tunisia which is doing great, but no one remembers them

Morsi was only in power for 1 year though (1 year and 3 days actually), before the military decided democracy wasn't working and that Egypt should return to a military rule.

ah yeah, i thought it might have been tunisia but discounted it for some reason
i stand corrected, then.

iirc the public expressed a great deal of discontent with the state of his administration. and the military has a peculiar role in egypt, one not very well seen elsewhere.

Yes the problem was with everything.
It was an illegitimate, internationally condemned power grab from the very beginning. And even secular democracy activists soon realised this shortly after when they themselves started getting arrested and shot. Ordering hundreds to death without even giving them a fair trial.
Not to mention the military arrested and outlawed the original democracy parties that started the whole thing against mubarak too.
So now when death sentences suit FP they rate this article winner while they complain about it in every single other thread, especially when it involves rapists, murderers and that kind of people?
Facepunch just proves that it's bunch of fucking hypocrites over and over again lmao

And I don't know what FP you've been visiting for god knows how long, but there's definitely a sizeable amount of people here who praise the death penalty.
