Are you sad? Tired? Angry? Upset because you spilled some milk and, contrary to popular opinion, it was in fact the end of the world after all? Well, don’t be. Today is a happy day, because criminally underrated first-person runner (with some shooty bits that should’ve leaped off a building and never looked back) Mirror’s Edge is on the comeback trail. For a while, it’s mostly been wishful thinking from folks at DICE, but now the people with the money are talking, and they’re saying wonderful, joyous things.Speaking with Game Informer (via Videogamer), EA Labels president Frank Gibeau fired the starting gun on Faith’s long-awaited return.
“We have nothing to announce . We love Faith. We love the property. It’s really about how and when do you bring it back? It’s on the list. It’s just about looking at what teams are available, who’s got the right quality approach to it, and who understands it.”So, unfortunately, we probably won’t see anything in the near future, but I’m of the “something’s better than nothing” school of thought in all things – except maybe hungry wolverines. Of course, now the question is what form it’ll take. I’m not entirely sure modern day EA would be willing to risk another King-Kong-sized fist-full of cash on a franchise that already stumbled once. Then again, there were rumblings that Frostbite 2 would lead Faith back into the limelight last year, so who knows?
Regardless, it’s a damn shame that no other game has really captured the stomach-lurching sensation of running, leaping, and catapulting yourself through the air since Mirror’s Edge. Obviously, a number of first-person games have attempted to follow in Faith’s footsteps and improve the sense that we embody a character, but nothing’s really touched the frantic thrill DICE’s parkour-powered opus offered. I want more. Desperately. Also, I wish my brain was a color-coded GPS capable of highlighting routes that varied according to how often they’d require me to defy death. As is, I’m only forced to outrun attack choppers once, maybe twice per month. And, I mean, at that point, why even bother?
fixed the title
I think there was a $5 DLC for the game but it was Origin exclusive

hm good point
perhaps the people who made the original game might have the right quality to approach it, considering they made the original
Fucking yes I really wanted a sequel to this game.
Of course it might be hard to come up with a good story other than the generic sequels where they obviously lost their job because their leader was killed and they saved the world, in this case [sp]merc being shot and the runners disbanded and saving the city.[/sp]
i recently played through the game. after 3 years of being out it still stands up well. it's without a doubt one of the best games to ever come from DICE and EA.
[editline]14th July 2012[/editline]
all the next one needs is multiplayer and/or freeroam
hey guys new game not-even-announced LET'S TALK ABOUT ALL THE WAYS IT CAN FAIL

It's hard to be optimistic when EA is involved.
I would play a CoD-like multiplayer with the running mechanics the first game had. I expected this with brink but was very dissapointed.
It's hard to be optimistic when EA is involved.
Basically this.
Honestly though, I just hope they don't try to focus on the gun fighting segments in any way. Maybe improve the hand-to-hand system, since that requires more than point and shoot, but otherwise leave combat alone.

you're pretty good at making mirrors edge they should hire you
Ask me a few months ago, I would have said that I could trust EA & DICE to do something good with this.
But with the recent choices EA has basically forced DICE to do... I'm a bit sceptical.
Actually, I'd be alright with basically straight hand-to-hand combat for multiplayer. Make it all about timing and reaction, and not just spam the air with attacks. Maybe a dynamic injury system like you could kick someone in the leg to impede their running and jumping abilities for a time, or damage an arm to hamper their climbing abilities. I'd really enjoy combat like that.
Mirror's edge had a lot of edges but not enough mirrors.
Sequel better fix that.

I would expect an improvement from the original though. After BF3 I would assume that.
It's hard to be optimistic when EA is involved.
EA really aren't that big a problem during the game development. Though their advertising and deadlines are a major problem. Most of the recent "failures" (lmao, these were some of the best games of the year) like ME3 and BF3 were only unpolished (or lacking a decent ending) because of the deadlines. The games were still quite solid, enjoyable games.
Now, all they need to do is gag and bind their current CEO so he stops talking for once, he's like the EA equivalent of Chet or whoever it is that keeps hyping up the features in Bethesda games needlessly. He just isn't doing them any good for PR at all, in a time they actually need it.

Honestly, the Brink Parkour mechanics were not bad, it's just that maps didn't have enough space
I really enjoyed playing as a light character on that cargo bay map, It was easy to flank your enemies
Call me a party pooper, but hasn't EA been saying this for the last... 3 years?
I remember reading tons of interviews from anywhere from 2008 to 2012 from EA high-ups saying "we haven't abandoned mirror's edge" and "mirror's edge 2 is still a possibility". At first I thought they had actually announced it, but this has been going on for years.

tell that to activision
Haha wow I just started re-playing this a few days ago and this news comes out :v: , I hope they don't add unnecessary graphics improvements cause even though the original game is released in 2009 the visuals are still one of the best video game art designs I've seen.

Don't forget that Merc wasn't the only leader. You also have Drake.
The one thing that pissed me off is that in the first game there was not a single mirror

There was in the first mission when you jumped and grabbed on the helicopter :v:
I have been waiting for this for a long time.
My single most favorite singleplayer game ever. If this is just hype for nothing I will be very sad.
This is THE GAME that needs to be good, fuck all the other games EA made this one had originality. Thread music.

One of the improvements they can do is add some free roaming sequences, I've always wanted to see what the city looked like with people and cars and stuff.
The prettiest cities in games are always the inaccessible ones.
Hope they get rid of guns. Felt ten times cooler to kick a bunch of soldier firing at you without firing a shot yourself.

that was only a reflection in the glass besides it was scripted
