• What does it mean to be European
    78 replies, posted
For the sake of some equality, and out of boredom, and in the abominable tradition of copycat threads when countries are involved, what does it mean to be European? Ideas: You live within the European Union. You live in the European continent. Call yourself European. Refuse to call yourself European, because you're actually British (Scottish, English, Welsh), French (Corsican), Spanish (Catalan, Basque), Italian ETC You dislike fast food. You like fast food but are secretly ashamed. You find that Europe is the worst place in the world accept the other places. You have a passport for a European country. Discuss. Or don't. Please rate me dumb, I have. Actually, what none-'European' people mean when they say 'European' might actually be an interesting topic. Living in the best place on Earth. That's what European mean. [Edit]: Hey disagreeing folks, mind explain which country you are from and actually make a reply? oh waiiiit
Living in the best place on Earth. That's what European mean.
Mean? I think i'm quite a nice person really, regardless of where I live. Anyway, so you're saying being European works the same as being nationalist?
To be very, very Hairy.
I would rather leave in EU- Sweden then any other country.
You know, europe isn't a country, we're completely different
I think I covered that... maybe i'll make a tally then get bored and give up.
I'm interested in whether non-Eurofags are also referring to Britain when they say "Europe" Rate me agree if you include Britain when you talk about Europe, disagree if you don't.
I'm interested in whether non-Eurofags are also referring to Britain when they say "Europe" Rate me agree if you include Britain when you talk about Europe, disagree if you don't.
Its called The Great Britain.
I'm interested in whether non-Eurofags are also referring to Britain when they say "Europe" Rate me agree if you include Britain when you talk about Europe, disagree if you don't.
Yeah, i defineteley included that view in the OP
Refuse to call yourself European, because you're actually British (Scottish, English, Welsh), French (Corsican), Spanish (Catalan, Basque), Italian ETC
So we can be friends now!
Its called Great Britain.
Do you say "The United States of America" when you talk about the US?
I'm interested in whether non-Eurofags are also referring to Britain when they say "Europe" Rate me agree if you include Britain when you talk about Europe, disagree if you don't.
Why wouldn't you include Britain in Europe? for me Europe = universal healthcare, nice cars, nice food, nice places, nice everything, cern and most important! Lack of ultra religious bastards that walk the streets
Wait, east or west of the berlin wall?
Why wouldn't you include Britain in Europe? for me Europe = universal healthcare, nice cars, nice food, nice places, nice everything, cern and most important! Lack of ultra religious bastards that walk the streets
We've got a lot of flaws aswell though.

The religious thing is important, we're much less religious than the US.
Well, personally I cannot judge Europe, because it is all I've ever known. I've lived my whole life in this little, busy country called Holland. I enjoy it here, therefor, I enjoy this part of Europe. But I fear my view upon America is heavily influenced by the media, meaning that it's diluted and possibly not true. If the masses are correct or partly correct about the US, then I am glad to be born in Holland. A place without guns, without excessive hatred, religion, idiots and wacko's. And legal weed, but that's besides the point. Right?
We've got a lot of flaws aswell though.
Contrary to popular belief, Europe is actually perfect, with no flaws or problems at all.
Yes of course, but compared to other countries/continents/areas, I would say most country in Europe and Europe itself has less flaws.
I like the homely feel of Ireland. Not too many people, just right. The politicians are local, you'd see the Prime Minister in the park without armed bodyguards, and we have a great sense of patriotic pride, and most of us enjoy being in the EU.
I dunno, just whenever I see an American TV show talk about Europe they mean mainland Europe. So.... yeah.... Though I'm pretty sure most Americans are better informed than that.
You know, europe isn't a country, we're completely different
You should have said "You know, everyone is different". That's really the gist of this discussion (besides all the stereotypes being spouted).
Talking about the stereotypes in this thread... The Clash is finally relevant!
I still don't know why we got rid of that wall, kept the communists from taking our freedom
we have a great sense of patriotic pride, and most of us enjoy being in the EU.
Damn it Britain take a lead from these guys. Everyone here fears the EU so fucking much it's ridiculous.
Damn it Britain take a lead from these guys. Everyone here fears the EU so fucking much it's ridiculous.
The EU has a terrible PR approach in Britain. They let everyone make up anything they want about what it's done wrong, but never boast about anything they achieved. For example, this year mobile phone roaming charges went down. All the phone companies boasted about how wonderful they were for doing this, but forgot to mention that the EU forced them to cap charges... Canada is better Sorry folks but it's true :(
I don't mind the sound of EU but I don't know what advantages it offers, I mean I can already go through all the countries in the EU with a British passport - maybe one advantage is that Gordon Brown won't have control of us anymore.
It's like living in the USSR, trying to make very one equally poor and mixing all races into one.
