TSA Begins Rolling Out Less-Invasive "Gingerbread Man" Body Scanners to U.S. Airports
According to Jaunted, the TSA has begun rolling out a new style of body scanner to select airports that will hopefully have the effect of maintaining security while reducing the "random TSA agents in some dark room are seeing me naked" problem the current scanners struggle with. These new scanners are sometimes referred to as "gingerbread man" scanners: They project any forbidden objects onto a genital-less drawing of a person, rather than showing a traveller's actual body.
These scanners aren't new; they've been used elsewhere in the world at airports like Amsterdam's Schiphol for years, and we've seen similar ideas before. It shows only a featureless body shape (which looks sort of like a gingerbread man), and if it finds any forbidden objects during the scan, it projects them onto the corresponding location on the gingerbread drawing as yellow "hot spots." Then the offender is hustled out for the regular invasive body scan. Nobody said this new system was perfect, but it does reduce the number of invasive scans: if you're clean and the scanner realizes it on the first try, your body will remain unseen by humorless TSA types.
The new scanners are rolling out to 40 domestic airports at first, for a total of about 240 machines at a cost of $2.7 million. We're not sure exactly which airports are getting the scanners, though the Baltimore-Washington and Tampa airports seem a lock.

Why are people so insecure about this shit.
As a frequent traveler I don't care if a TSA employee sees my nads, as long as some asshole with a bomb doesn't get on the plane with me.

I don't appreciate random people looking at my nads. And I'm sure there are a lot of others who do not as well.
And I seriously doubt women want to be seen so intimately either.
The insecure ones are ashamed of their small genitals
Or they don't want people looking at them.
So all it is is some software between the scan and the output image. They still take those naked images but cant see them. Sure...
The insecure ones are ashamed of their small genitals

I reserve the right to be ashamed of small genitals.
Now I can't get a massive hard-on and watch the face of the person looking at my scan. Bad move TSA.
If I ever get randomly searched at a airport, I'll make sure I look as suspicious as possible, then when he is about to probe me I BLAST HIM WITH SHIT
I don't see why dicks and vaginas are such a big issue. They're just dicks and vaginas.

The problem is, TSA doesn't guarantee that at all. In fact, there have been numerous demonstrations/studies that weapons, bombs and illegal people can easily board the plane with no trouble from the TSA, at all.
I don't know about you guys, but I have this weird thing called personal space.
I really hate it when people get into it hell I don't know maybe you've heard of it
Yeh, some people don't like getting groped by strangers, is that strange?
I have a big dick, I don't care if anyone sees it.
But seriously, this isn't a big deal. Welcome to the era we live in. Don't like it? You can row across the ocean to get to where you're going. Or drive to where you're going.

Dude, that is a pretty fatalistic declaration. If enough people got irked by it I am sure it would be changed or done away with.

Sad part is, people can get through TSA with dangerous shit regardless. the way it is run now is just a privacy invasion and an annoyance.
Wasn't it not too long ago that Adam savage got past the TSA with twelve-inch planer blades? just one example of many

I'd feel much better if the entire thing was automated personally.

Public indecency is a baseless and curious concept that I hope we get rid of one day.

I'd be freaked the fuck out, then probably flattered. Especially if it's a female at the screen.

It isn't any sort of a winning situation regardless. Either you deal with Human error and Human issues, or you deal with automation that can be hacked. Both can botch up the job pretty fucking harsh, but I'd think machines to be a better route.
Besides, have them connected locally to their small networked sister-components, not just floating about connected every which way. Hard as fuck to hack something that isn't readily available.

So all this is is a different UI on the scanners? My main problem with these scanners are that people are being searched without reasonable suspicion or a warrant by people who aren't the police, being able or unable to see my through my clothes isn't much of an issue after that.
I don't really care.
If TSA wants to admire my magnificent schlong then good on them.
I'd let them print out a picture of it and put it up in the flight control centre.
TSA is totally useless, you are trading freedom for security but as someone said before they are not effective in stopping terrorists from getting through.
id rather keep the dick seeing machine but the tsa guy has to be scanned in return so we're both looking at eachothers dicks, then they'll try to use different methods
Probably not since I highly doubt they give a shit if someone see's a rendered image of them on screen. They'd be more like, "Are you done? We have a backlog of people and I'm want to take my lunch break, get the fuck out of here."
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
The highest law of our land prohibits it.
EXPLICITLY.
I have never seen an amendment so blatantly violated. Our government is only permitted to search us in the even that they have probably cause supported specifically by an eyewitness or evidence. They CANNOT blanket search people. The amendment also protects our personal belongings.
Airport security, and the TSA in general, are violations of my fourth amendment. I don't give a fuck if someone sees me naked, I care that the document that maintains order in my nation is being ignored.

Remember when Obamacare was going to be voted on? Pelosi motioned for it to be passed without a vote. Blatant disregard for the constitution. Also, we now have "illegal guns." What ever happened to the second amendment?

You're the type of person that just lets people violate your rights.
Plus it is way more about the scans, there is a point as to why people fight against it.
For me I'm pissed at the extra 9/11 security cost that is tacked on to the alright high ticket price, on top of that the TSA wastes millions of dollars on these fucking devices and they're A. Not used at all, B. Used, but contraband still makes it though. These devices also concern people for health reasons, specially if they're frequent traveler. It is said that these scanners produce radiation that is 20 times higher then official estimates. All this equipment that is being bought is a huge waste of money that the American government does not have. These means of security are ineffective and have been proven so. A lot of other countries that face attacks from "terrorists" or other political groups don't even use these means because they know they're ineffective. The only reason the ineffectiveness has not been pointed out so harshly because TSA and the public got lucky when these attackers got past security and their equipment failed. If they didn't have a technical error a lot of people would be dead right now and who knows what type of security would be in place.
And as GunFox pointed out it violates our rights given to us. Yes, I understand a search under PC, that is fine. But a lot of people are getting scanned and pat-down without even being told a thing, no reason for it.

That's a huge false sense of security you've got going on. These screenings aren't making you safe.

The firearms one is actually less strict than most people imagine. It is this bizarre chimera of laws that have eventually produced our current situation.
It is, technically, legal to own a rocket propelled grenade launcher. You just have to find one for sale from a licensed dealer, live in a state that permits them, and pay the 200 dollar tax stamp for the launcher and every RPG you buy.
Similarly, all fully automatic weapons made prior to 1986 can be obtained in a similar fashion.
But by doing so, you walk into a legal minefield. All sorts of weird restrictions and such. The slate really just needs to be wiped clean and started from scratch. Several federal firearms laws were put on the books in an illegal fashion and shouldn't actually be upheld in court, but they are.
