David Bateson Returns as the voice of Agent 47.
After a long search IO Interactive are pleased to unveil that the voice of Agent 47 will once again be acted by David Bateson who has been the voice of Hitman since the year 2000 with the seminal PC release Codename 47. Alongside Bateson, William Mapother (star of hit TV series LOST) has performed the motion capture work for Agent 47 which was recorded at Giant Studios.
Speaking about the decision to return to Bateson after the studio earlier declared he wouldn’t be the voice of 47 in Hitman: Absolution, Brand Director Jon Brooke said “IO and Bateson have been bed fellows for over a decade and like all long running relationships sometimes absence makes the heart grow fonder. Looking back I think we were just playing hard to get.”
Both Bateson and Mapother now join a long list of talent announced for the game including Marsha Thomason, Keith Carradine, Vivica Fox and Powers Boothe.
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!
thank fuck, had my doubts but the game's looking really good
Kind of weird since they had some new guy voice Hitman for all this time in Absolution only for him to get replaced this late into development.
Still, news got me excited about Absolution and I'll preorder soon.

It's only a matter of recording new lines and replacing old ones.
He even looks like 47... I don't know why they didn't get him for the movie.

The reason why he looks like 47 is because they actually used parts of his face structure when they remade 47's face for Silent Assassin, since then they've been tweaking it constantly.
This is lovely news though, its nice they decided to go back to the original voice, but saying that the new guy they had doing it didn't sound bad either but it just wasn't the same.
What about Diana? As I recall, they were getting someone else to voice her as well.
I had a feeling they were going to bring him back. I love to have Dave back, but the new voice would have been just fine for me anyways.
I would have liked if they kept it as a surprise, never show him talking in the trailers or anything and make Bateson say that he didn't get the role.
Then you get the game, holy fuck it's Bateson.

congrats IO you just got another sale
david bateson was the deal maker here for me

They would have pissed so many people off if they did that. This is like saying Valve should just release HL3 with no warning, the outrage would be immense.
Bateson? THE Bateson? SOLD! Fucking sold!
It's like they started off by marketing this game all wrong; Bateson's gone, trailer with Hitman beating the shit out of everyone, see-through-walls, then over time they said hahah jk it's a good game really
Yes, this is legit. I was visiting IO Interactive earlier today and Nick, the Community Guy, gave me a USB-key with this file on it. Told me to play it as soon as possible, and then upload it to the interwebs at around 16:00 GMT+1. Bateson is indeed back, and I am so thrilled. Can't wait to see the final product of* this game, which has just shown to be so much more awesome.
This game is gonna own. They seem to know what the community wants and anything recent that has been shown looks incredible. I'm so glad I have this preordered already.

I get he's got a great, iconic voice and that he's been the voice of 47 for ages, but does 47 being voiced by him seriously make or break the game?
I just find it a bit silly. It's great he's back and all, but I still would have bought Absolution without him.

It makes a difference for long time fans because he is the face and voice of the franchise and it pissed a lot of people off when he was pretty unceremoniously dropped from the series. This should get back a lot of the more devoted fans.
Cool now get jesper kyd back NOW.
This is the best news i've heard today.

Indeed. The pre-release hype has been quite a ride. I still have some doubts over how good the game will actually be, but it looks like a proper Hitman game now instead of a action-shooter with the Hitman title on it.
Actually kinda reminds me of Blood Money's trailers were full of action and explosions in contrast to how the game actually played.

It's more that IO had no reason not to bring him back. Word was he hadn't even been contacted to voice 47 again. Combine that with the marketing showing 47 shooting his way through linear-looking levels, and it's no surprise that the fans were apprehensive.
47...
47 winner ratings.
does anyone have a recording of the new guy? i never heard anything he said
Months of collective outrages tend to get a point across :v:
I fucking called it.
A few threads backed i noted how they havent had him speak in a video for over a year, except for the one small sentence in the first ever released video.
I fuckin knew it.
is it just me or does he look a lot like liam neeson in OP's pic?
Absolution is looking awesome if you've kept up to date on it. The sandbox mode, and the custom missions that can come out of that? That's incredible. The graphics to those who care, look awesome and it'll be a game that can push modern PC's, so that's awesome. It's showing stuff that sounds and looks very much like they want a return to the old hitman games, Blood Money and Silent Contracts and what not, so that's an awesome sign.
They really seem to want what we all want out of the game, and I think that's awesome.
Damn I've never played a hitman game so in my mind hitman sounds like Timothy Olphant

You should pick up the older ones and play them in order.

Well... long story short... I needed to use the bathroom
47 was going to be voiced by William Mapother? The guy who voiced Colonel Hsu in Fallout: New Vegas?
That's hard to imagine... Good thing Bateson is back.
