• Redbox movie rentals, The next level of cancer.

Redbox, for those of you who do not know of them, here is a brief description. Ahh yes, look, it looks quite friendly. Yet deep inside that box is cancer, a growing force of evil that kills anything it contacts. You can rent a movie, for 1$. It is 1$ each night until 25 nights, then it stops charging you. Now, we get to the story of redbox and its plight. For those of you in big cities, this most likely does not apply to you. As soon as I figured out what redbox's were, I admit, I used them a few times. But later into it, I noticed that quite a lot of people were saying "Why go rent a movie when i can get one for 1$." This logic was quite reasonable, but I still contained a deep foreboding danger at it. Fast forward a few weeks, pun intended. Later into the week I went to the local movie rental store, which also had game rentals called Hollywood video. I went in and noticed the store was emptier than the darkest pit of hell, and the owner looked quite dreary. I rented a movie and moved on. Now a few weeks later, While driving around town i noticed that hollywood video had a big OUT OF BUSINESS sign upon the door. "Oh fuck" I said to myself. Where else could i rent older movies, season dvd's of tv shows, new games to check them out to see if I am interested in buying! Needless to say I was quite exasperated, but fear not because there was another store called "Movie Gallery" I drove across the other side of town, and saw the building. Another "Oh Fuck" came out of my dry raspy lips as i saw that they were having an out of business sale. Needless to say, redbox is an evil creeping cancer upon movies stores, dominating them in drones of horrible evil boxes. They have shut down all the movie rental stores within 30 miles for me, and it fucking sucks.
I quite like the Redboxes actually. Why should Redbox be bad for having a better business plan than a rental store? Shit like this is already heavy in Japan. It's called capitalism. The rental stores will have to adapt and do something better. Hell, there's a movie store near me that rents videos for 69 cents a night.
Free market capitalism at work.
A Hollywood video next to where I live closed down too. Now I know why.
Video rental is going to die out in the near future anyway
Video rental is going to die out in the near future anyway
Maybe not, a big problem with the redboxes are that they are constantly out of popular movies. They'll have to place more machines, costing more money, whereas a rental store can just order more copies.
Redbox is all fine and dandy for the causal movie watcher, but it has a smaller selection of movies than stores.
I 'd Hollywood Video.... I'm never going to touch a RedBox. It's just sad. NetFlix it is... I guess.
So $1 a night for 25 nigths, so you pay $25 to rent it? I am horribly confused.

I don't care about those companies, It's all about ME and MY money. redbox understood that and thats why they are winning.
So $1 a night for 25 nigths, so you pay $25 to rent it? I am horribly confused.
Its one dollar night. So every night you hold onto it charges you another dollar, until you've held it for 25 nights, then it stops charging you.
Who cares about DVD anymore?
All the video stores around me closed before red box was introduced so I either borrow dvds from redbox or the library.

I personally used to work at one that went out of business a couple of months ago.
Hey the hollywood around here just went out of business too.
Redbox kicks ass when you want a quick movie fix.
Redbox put my local Blockbuster out of business. Literally the next Blockbuster like now like 20+ miles away.
This type of thing was bound to happen. Video Stores, with the ongoing revolution of machinery and the internet, are unneeded. This would've happened regardless of Redbox. If you want to blame something, blame the internet and things like TIVO.
Netflix > Redbox.
I haven't seen one yet.
My Hollywood Video and Blockbuster had been closed too. :(
Who the fuck rents anymore?
I don't care about those companies, It's all about ME and MY money. redbox understood that and thats why they are winning.
I don't know about you but i like a store with actual staff who can reccomend you something, it's about the interaction as much as the actual renting for me.
I think on-demand movies will take over DVD rentals. I guess it's kind of a bummer in the sense of losing something nostalgic, but it happens.
It's not just red boxes causing this? Watching shows online for free, online movie rental services that ship what you want to watch to your doorstep with no late fees, and so much more. Red boxes only carry the most recent movies.
Its one dollar night. So every night you hold onto it charges you another dollar, until you've held it for 25 nights, then it stops charging you.
more or less 25 bucks is the cost of what RedBox paid for the DVD.
Don't blame redbox, blame netflix they ahve been chipping away at the finance of the rental industry long before.
Online rental isn't has fun as going to a store because they don't have funny B-movies like The killer Condom or the killer bong :saddowns:
I once saw a blue red box in a Walmart.
