Glenn Beck, the radio and TV commentator whom some have described as a modern day Howard Beal, "mad prophet of the airwaves," may be the latest person to tell his neighbors, "You can go to Hell. I'm going to Texas."
Beck seemed to suggest Texas was in his future in an interview with Texas Gov. Rick Perry. Beck's Mercury Radio Arts company, which controls a small media empire that includes his radio show, an online newspaper called "The Blaze" and a fledgling subscription TV talk show on GBTV has 150 employees.
Texas has a number of advantages for a business over New York, currently Beck's base of operations. Texas has no personal state income tax and a regulatory environment that encourages the formation of small businesses. New York, on the other hand, has a confiscatory tax system and a regulatory regime that would put the Byzantine Empire to shame.
Beck may also have a personal motive for contemplating a move to Texas. Recently he and his family were attacked by a group of ruffians while in New York's Bryant Park. There is nothing like a good old-fashioned New York City street altercation to motivate a man into pulling up roots and moving to a more friendly environment.
Beck is not unfamiliar to Texas. He got his start in Houston as a shock jock, long before he kicked a variety of addictions and got religion. He was a friend, incidentally, of Dan Patrick, then a TV sports announcer, now a radio mogul and Texas state senator.
Beck would not be the first conservative radio talker to flee New York and its taxes and regulations. A number of years ago, Rush Limbaugh, the father of all conservative talk radio, moved from New York to Palm Beach, Florida where he now broadcasts his nation-wide show. By not venturing into New York, Rush avoids quite a few taxes that would otherwise drain his considerable income.
Beck, who is ending his TV show on the Fox News Network, and Rush have certain advantages over other talkers, such as Sean Hannity. Hannity, who has a long-running TV show on FNC, is bound to New York by that particular gig. While CNN has been headquartered in relatively low tax Atlanta, Georgia, Fox News has remained in New York, perhaps on the theory that being in the biggest media market in the world offsets the tax and regulation headaches.
Even so, maybe Hannity could find a way to broadcast from a Fox studio in--say--Dallas or Orlando in order to avoid the hassles of living in New York. Either place would be glad to have him, just as Rush is welcome where he is and Beck will no doubt be welcome in Texas if and when he moves there.
Oh jeez. As much as I want to say "We don't want him here either", in the back of my mind I know he'll fit right in. :eng99:
The snark in that article is fantastic. They actually used the word ruffians.
Why don't we get all right-wing extremists to move to texas, and we can just build a wall around it, and send them back if they try to come over here.
I want to see him on True Capitalist Radio.

BECAUSE I'M HERE. WE HAVE ENOUGH, PLEASE NO.

You will become part of Mexico and you will like it!!
You will become part of Mexico and you will like it!!
If Glenn Beck moves to Texas, I would gladly move to Mexico, despite the malaria risk.
Also if gov. Rick Perry wins the 2012 election, that means... Glenn Beck will run for governor in Texas. :ohdear:
Texas really isn't that bad of a place. If you got rid of the religious influence in politics it would be a great place. I have no intention of leaving anytime soon.

Only thing wrong with that is that Texas is fully self reliant, and produces enough to keep themselves separated.
So we'd lose stuff if we wall them off. Just push them all in Arkansas. I never hear anything about that state at all.
Is it even a state?

That's all I ever hear about the place is all the stupidity that stems from religion. I visited Texas a few years back and the scenery was nice at least.

It would really be your loss if you walled us off.
I used to live in Texas (Kerr County) it was awesome! Bunch of hills, and the residents were really friendly. I really wonder why people say it sucked. It was awesome when I used to live there.
If Glenn Beck goes back, the US will give Texas back to Mexico.

Texas is such a big place that there is a spot for everyone. We got all kinds of people, not just cowboy and redneck types as portrayed everywhere. We have four major cities, the 4th/5th biggest sea port in the nation, cheap houses compared to the rest of the country, and beautiful landscapes among many other things. If religion doesn't tickle your fancy though, you're going to have to be tolerant as the majority of people here are at the very least, religious. If that doesn't bother you (I will say, some people are rather ignorant) then its a wonderful place to live.

Giving away the state with the second highest GDP in the nation is not a really good idea considering how shit the economy is right now.

We all have to make sacrifices.
We all have to make sacrifices.
You're probably 12 and you've probably never even left your state yet alone basement. Texas is chill as fuck in most places
Than why do Texans let ultra-religious nutcases anywhere near the government/positions of power in Texas?
Because as I stated above, many people are still really religious.
Going to have to move out of Louisiana guys.
He's going to be WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too close.
Because as I stated above, many people are still really religious.
Also very agricultural, so as long as he keeps getting the farmer/rancher votes, Rick Perry will be our governor for as long as he wants. :frown:
But yeah, other than our politicians, Texas is a pretty nice place.
Been living in Texas for a few years, while it's nice I want to get out of here
Why are you even in that state in the first place?
the food man
it's fucking amazing

Texas isn't bad. I lived in a ton of different countries and states, just recently living in Texas put in mind. A year or so. Place is pretty good, better then some of the other states I've been do.

Why me? It'd ruin our Texas spirit :saddowns: Make them move to Montana. Nobody lives there.

If by scenery you mean dirt, lizards, the Bush family, and cacti.
And all of those are cool... except for the first and third.

Oh, and don't forget brown grass and wildfires.

Maybe Ghost can get him on the show?

I've been there and I agree and honestly I wouldn't mind moving there some day.
Texas is great. The people have a tendency to be ignorant and highly religious, but that really goes for a lot of the southern states.
If you can get past that and the extreme heat, Texas is a fantastic place to live.
That being said, we still don't want Glenn Beck.
