It’s known for its nearly indestructible design, indefatigable battery life, and Snake II — and it might be making a modern-day comeback. The news comes from notable phone leaker Evan Blass, who reports over at VentureBeat that HMD Global — the Finnish company that licensed the rights to produce Nokia phones — will be announcing a relaunch of the classic 3310 phone at MWC that will allegedly cost just €59 (roughly $62.61).
http://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2017/2/14/14609438/nokia-3310-rumored-mwc-3-5-6-hmd-global
Holy fuck I'd get one as a backup phone.

You can get a poor man's smartphone for that price. Normal 2000's era cell phones go for $20-$40
lol I can still buy these from people around here for like 10 bucks
Why? You can get a poor man's smartphone for that price. Normal 2000's era cell phones go for $20-$40
You can destroy any smartphone by throwing the 3310 at it!
I wanna see one built with super strong plastic and glass that could actually no-joke withstand a bullet, 1-mile-deep water, and a blowtorch.
might be a good addition to a go bag
My first cellphone :)
If I threw this at my car it would probably push the car out of the way. I'd keep one laying around as a backup.
I can safely put my account on it that given the lore behind the 3310, there will be youtube videos within 24 hours of the phone coming out showing the phone being otherwise demolished in some ridiculous way.
It's a great idea. There are lots of people with no friends who don't need all the fancy stuff a smartphone has and don't want to pay all that extra shit like data costs
60 bux? lol what
Was this phone actually durable or is that just a meme? I have a feeling it isn't considered fragile simply because it didn't have a hinge which was the failure point on clamshells.
Nokia phones are built to last My first phone wasn't a 3310, it had a different design but pretty much the same OS. It survived being thrown out of a 6th-story balcony with some of the paint chipped off, and the screen in pretty much one piece. Also, the battery lasted a long time. My current phone is a Nokia C1-01. I've had it for about five years. The paint in the backpanel has completely worn off, I've had to change the battery only once (Last year, in fact), and the screen is scratched but otherwise is in mint condition. It has taken some heavy abuse as well, and it's running as smoothly as the first day. The compact size also makes it easier to carry, and even if I use the music player for an entire day the battery still has enough charge for another twenty four hours. So yes, I'd say that the phones are actually durable, and most importantly reliable. They're tiny microwave AKs, except made in Finland
everyone knows that 1100 is the real classic tho
Here's hoping they're as tough as the originals, otherwise what's the point?
Why? You can get a poor man's smartphone for that price. Normal 2000's era cell phones go for $20-$40
But are they tough enough to trigger an IED and survive? These things are.
everyone knows that 1100 is the real classic tho
Yeah, but those squidgy buttons were annoying as fuck to me to SMS on. Clicky buttons that have a nice tactile response like the 3310 did - my choice, any day of the week. It's also why I took longer than usual getting accustomed to typing on a touchpad and stillthink it's inferior to a dedicated keyboard (except for keyboard swipe thing that magically guesses words, because that shit is sorcery).
I bet it's some Mediatek Series 30+ monstrosity that has nothing in common with the old Nokia 3310.
My 3310 survived the washing machine thrice
My 3310 survived the washing machine thrice
You mean your washing machine survived trying to wash your 3310 thrice. My first one obliterated the family TV in an accident when I first got one of them. It's not like household appliances really stood a chance.
Just relaunch of make a phone with the same philosophy of the Nokia N9 you fucking whore bitches it's almost like you hate money [editline]15th February 2017[/editline] It outsold both Lumia 800 and 900 even though having no marketing, being launched in Limited markets and internal strategies to make sure it failed
And put a good OS like android on it too
I can safely put my account on it that given the lore behind the 3310, there will be youtube videos within 24 hours of the phone coming out showing the phone being otherwise demolished in some ridiculous way.
?? :toxx: ??
Ah, good. I was worried the Finnish military would run out of AP tank rounds.
It better be a 3310 that has access to 3G/4G radios (albeit at say, 1Mbps) because otherwise it's just a modern brick in countries that are actively phasing out 2G. Australia's top two carriers have already done just that, or are in the process of doing so (Optus 2G shuts down in April, Telstra 2G is already gone).
I'd figure they'd have to modernize it. Gotta see what happens.
This is stupid, at least modernize it then.
I remember I had the Nokia that was transparent so you could make your own custom covers with this big, ridiculously wasteful cookie cutter thing it came with, it was cool as fuck though.
My 3310 survived the washing machine thrice
Twice for mine, as well as fall down the stairs twice, fall out a 2nd and third story window, stepped on it and a whole bunch of other bullshit. All it had were scratches. :v:
I still have mine
Why? You can get a poor man's smartphone for that price. Normal 2000's era cell phones go for $20-$40
I've had one of these sitting in my car for over 5 years, every few months I start it up to check it works. It still fucking works, I don't even have a charger for it
?? :toxx: ??
There are people who bought an iPhone straight from the apple store and starter to destroy it a minute later. Its a pretty safe toxx.
