Photograph: Reuters David Cameron accused Ed Miliband of siding with Russia and letting down the United States over Syria in an acrimonious phone call made between the leaders a day before the Commons votes against intervention in Syria, according to Labour sources. Details of the remarkably frank conversation emerged after Downing Street aides attempted to blame Miliband for killing off the government's plans to take military action against Bashar al-Assad's regime in conjunction with the US. When Miliband made it clear in the call he would not support the government motion without more conditions, an exasperated Cameron accused him of "letting down America" and "siding with [Sergei] Lavrov", the Russian foreign minister, and an ally of Assad. One Labour aide said that was the point in which negotiations between Cameron and Miliband first started to break down on Wednesday. Cameron was hoping to reach cross-party consensus on a roadmap towards military action.
"letting down America"? I'm sorry, but what?
He kind of has a point. But I think its less siding with Russia and more political point scoring which is even worse given the matter at hand.

I don't think Miliband actually wanted this. I think he wanted to delay intervention and demand more evidence so that he would look cautious and level-headed, and it would repair Labour's post-Blair image as war mongerers. But he fucked up the numbers and actually blocked it.

I'm sorry, but what?
Well he's right, America is trying to build an international coalition around this issue and Britain just washed its hand of it.
Don't you mean letting down the Syrian people Cameron, surely you were doing it for the poor civilians right?
remove this plank from power....
"If you're not with us you're a Russian"
Ed Miliband is such a cunt.
cameron is a soggy old prick that needs to be taken out of power
Those dirty COMMIES I KNEW LABOUR WAS STILL KARL MARX IN DISGUISE.
Cameron is a fucking bellend, on all counts. He dived into calling a fucking vote before the UN inspectors had finished their investigation. Had he waited and confirmed that the Syrian government were responsible the vote would have more than likely gone in his favour. Ed is actually right on this, for once.

All the proof that Assad did it is already in the hands of the Government and it is why they are already pushing action on Assad.

I mean, fuck, if our nation is going to declare war on another nation I would hope it was a cautious and level headed decision instead of a chance to take our deputy badge and play hero again. The fact that his first retort is "letting down America" and not "letting down the Syrian people" is pretty telling that David Cameron gives more of a fuck about backing up our allies and playing the power game than actually alleviating any humanitarian crisis.
cameron is a soggy old prick that needs to be taken out of power
That might be so, but he is absolutely right about Syria.
He gon' crazy with power.
Are we able to impeach our PM? Let's get a petition going guys.
Are we able to impeach our PM? Let's get a petition going guys.
What for? Attempting to stop another country from gassing its own civilians? What are you on?
Well, to give him credit, at least he did call a vote rather than taking action without one.
No, fuck off with that shit, he doesn't get a fucking gold star for following the democratic process, it's his fucking job.
The media can always be counted on. Britain faces humiliation following display of arse-about-face democracy! Now we're just in for more of this.
He kind of has a point.
Ed Miliband is such a cunt.
Give me a shout when you find a politician that isn't
What a complete knob jockey.
I really don't want to cause an argument here, but nothing much was stopping him from just clicking his fingers and we'd be off in Syria. Nothing was forcing him to bring it to the House of Commons
i don't think this can really happen. on paper maybe yes but i don't think any prime minister would ever be like "well i want to go to war so off we go". even blair didn't do that - he had a lot of support and a massive team of people working out lies on which to base the necessity for war on. on top of that he had the backing of four countries going into the invasion cameron walking into syria on his own would be mental compared to that

Are we really right back to "If you're not with us, you're with the terrorists/Russia/China/aliens"?
No, fuck off with that shit, he doesn't get a fucking gold star for following the democratic process, it's his fucking job.
Uh you might want to look up the law of your own country. Nothing in the "democratic process" says he has to ask parliment before he uses the military. Via the royal prerogative he has complete control over the military (in the same way the queen does). What he did was entirely optional, and he should be commended for doing it.
