We are proud of the benefits Firefox OS added to the Web platform and will continue to experiment with the user experience across connected devices. We will build everything we do as a genuine open source project, focused on user experience first and build tools to enable the ecosystem to grow.
Firefox OS proved the flexibility of the Web, scaling from low-end smartphones all the way up to HD TVs. However, we weren’t able to offer the best user experience possible and so we will stop offering Firefox OS smartphones through carrier channels.
We’ll share more on our work and new experiments across connected devices soon.

And all 0 people are surprised.
That didn't really take long
There was a Firefox OS being developed? Why?

The current management of Mozilla seem to think that copying Google is their best decision.
That's a shame. Their TV interface was really nice, sort of a cross between XMB and iOS.

Even though the OS was a flop, it did produce one of the best looking smartphones in history.
Kind of a shame, was a neat little OS. Super smooth, too.
But there just isn't a market for it.
I wonder if Ubuntu Phone will follow suit.
Saw this being a flop from the start, I'm always right about this stuff - Steam OS and Steam Boxes will also be boarding the train with it to flopsville soon, feel free to refer back to this post when it happens.

low end chromebooks in india
they made a phone with it and its actually surprisingly bad, even for cheap phones

Steam Boxes might, but Steam OS will probably stay due to games supporting Linux support Steam OS.
at least they tried
While these are sometimes noble efforts
can we please stop trying to make new OSes nobody will support or widely use?

Its way too early to call steam machines, plus if the OS is what holds them back, all the features work on windows so they will just switch to win10, the advantage of steam OS is that it doesn't have a licensing fee

Steam OS is basically just the steam Linux client. As long as Steam for Linux continues development, Steam OS probably will. The parts of Steam OS that aren't the Steam client have been made open source and are part of Linux and various other projects now. Valve has actually made quite a good name for themselves in the Linux community

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't SteamOS basically just stock Debian with Steam that boots directly into big picture? Afaik none of the steam platform itself is open source and the contributions Valve has made are restricted to video drivers and SDL. If anyone has some insight as to what exactly valve has contributed, that'd be nice.

This is horrible mindset. If development was based on that logic, our tech would progress awfully slow.

I'm not informed on the software side of things, and I haven't heard of any major contributions to linux by steamOS, but Valve has done the linux community a GIGANTIC service by pushing for linux so hard. They encourage developers to develop on linux by preventing linux users from running games on wine very easily. That way, devs can't use wine as a crutch and are encouraged to support cross-platform.
Valve has helped take the idea that linux isn't good as a desktop OS because it can't play game and thrown it out the window
