Doctor Who All of time and space, anywhere and everywhere, where do you want to start? What is it? Back in 1963 BBC commissioned one of the first GOOD sci-fi television series in history. It was about a time travelling alien called The Doctor who doesn't really get on with his people (The Time Lords) so instead chooses to show humans the wonders of the universe thanks to his time travelling device called The TARDIS. A box that is bigger on the inside than the outside. An interesting fact about The Doctor is when he comes close to death he can regenerate every cell in his body and cheat death. This means he has a new face, new personality and new actor. This was done for 7 actors before the show was cancelled in 1989. After a poor TV movie in 1996 the show returned with a bang in 2005. This is pretty much where you need to start. No need to go back to 1963 and watch 26 years worth of Doctor Who to catch up. Most the episodes have been lost anyway. 2005 saw Christopher Eccleston (28 Days Later, GI Joe) play The Doctor, he left the same year and David Tennant took over. After becoming considered by many as "The Best Doctor" he left in 2010 after 5 years. Now Matt Smith plays the timelord. If you want you could start from Series 5 (2010 series) and get the idea of the show pretty quick. Oh. And it's brilliant. Why should I watch it? Do you like watching TV and feeling like a child again? That's a nice feeling. Also, it's a frankly fantastically written show. It's a national treasure. EVERYBODY in England has head of Doctor Who, it's a show that transcends dimensions. And it was so good, the first thread died. Yay! First post on V2!
Horray for the new thread!
I WAS THE LAST POST MY SUGGESTION SHOULD BE THE TITLE seriously it's fair

Good that we have a new thread. Let's hope it lasts until Saturday.
Couldn't you think of a better title?
I can't believe I have never seen this show! Is it available to watch on american television?
I can't believe I have never seen this show! Is it available to watch on american television?
Yes, but you have to wait weeks.
I WAS THE LAST POST MY SUGGESTION SHOULD BE THE TITLE seriously it's fair
It's my birthday, I have more right than you. Difference is I don't abuse it. Enjoy the new thread. THE OP WILL NOT:

List speculation. Even good speculation.
Info about an episode that has not premiered yet
Be dogged down with pointless information about the classic series, nobody cares if Jon Pertwee reversed the polarity to reject the ion field and travel through time.
Shh spoilers. Not really. Show is british, therefore living anywhere other than britain means this thread WILL contain spoilers for you. Even the OP. As long as the episode has premièred in England. You can talk about it spoiler-tag free.
You're not missing much, it's gone down the shitter lately.
Couldn't you think of a better title?
Yeah, but it's just a title. [editline]12:54PM[/editline]
You're not missing much, it's gone down the shitter lately.
You mean it went down the shitter in 2008 and 2009. Now it's being rescued by The Moff and The Smith and The Tits. Sorry, that's not her name. The SEXY LEGS.
Ooher! You should do character profiles like Ace's Dalek one. Also that's an excellent and concise timeline, love it. REPOSTING THE THEORY I POSTED (Just for luls) Okay guys, massive spoiler theory: [SP] In Flesh and Stone, when The Doctor leaves Amy in the forest, and goes with River and the Bishop, he comes back, and puts his hands on her and tells her to 'remember'. Watch it again. Notice that during that scene, he has his jacket on. Not only this, but its the dark jacket from 'Vampires in Venice', not the one stolen by the angels, and the sleeves are rolled up, which rules out a continuity error by Steven Moffat. Fans are saying that the doctor during that scene is the Doctor from the future, going back into Amy's timeline at various points for whatever reason. Makes sense too - he's obviously acting a lot more tender when he's telling her to 'remember', and it had seemed like he was already gone. Also, if you go back to the Eleventh Hour, you have that strange human shadow passing through the house, when child Amy is waiting for the TARDIS to return. It can't be Prisoner Zero, because it takes 'months to make that sort of connection'. Also, child Amy seems to react to the noise of the TARDIS, but then it fast forwards to present day. [/SP] Thank the guys at Gallifrey Base for that one, sounds very complicated but I'd stake a lot on it being significant.
New New Thread.
-snip- I fucked that right up.
Very nice theory. Bleeding obvious. But nice.
Would I be completely lost if I started in the season that Tennant started playing The Doctor?
Would I be completely lost if I started in the season that Tennant started playing The Doctor?
Not at all. However it would be better if you started at the Christopher Eccleston season. You miss out on a bit of Rose backstory otherwise. Also prepare for a few hellishly bad episodes while trying to get to Matt Smith.
Very nice theory. Bleeding obvious. But nice.
Once I read it it completely changed the way I watch the series, now I keep looking for future doctors everywhere
Would I be completely lost if I started in the season that Tennant started playing The Doctor?
I'd start watching this series first, the other ones are pretty stupid and will probably get retconed any way.
Not at all. However it would be better if you started at the Christopher Eccleston season.
I would, but I don't want to add another season onto what I'd need to watch to be caught up if it isn't necessary.
I would, but I don't want to add another season onto what I'd need to watch to be caught up if it isn't necessary.
Probably should start at Smith then, it's a lot easier to catch up on the story if you start at Smith. That being said whatever floats your boat, I guess. Being lost can be fixed with a quick wikipedia search on the eps you missed anyway.
It's been around an hour now since I watched Flesh and Bone and I still have this feeling left over from watching the episode... :ohdear:

The 9th Doctor episodes were some of the best... You should really watch it eventually.

Hello everyone again :buddy:
Hello everyone again :buddy:
Welcome back :buddy:
So we managed to get through an entire thread in 5 episodes, Dr. Who could end up been one of the most posted about things on the forum by the end. Matt Smith is doing a lot better now, wasn't a fan during Beast Below and Victory of the Daleks after the brilliant 11th Hour but he has turned it round. The crack just seem like an excuse to get rid of any errors in continuity over the series'.
