• Playstation Under Attack Again! (Possible PSN Store Security Breach)

All unconfirmed. (Though even Mr. Sun who posted in this thread has claimed to have gotten free game requests via email. Not to mention this is something that would be expected from the Anonymous group) Ignore his strange looks and just listen to the words. Searched and nothing came up, don't know if this is a repost. Supposedly it's because the hacker group want the PSN users to like them.
Europe's Playstation blog previously said the company was investigating "the possibility of targeted behavior by an outside party," but that message has since been removed. Hacking group Anonymous, which attacked Sony's servers earlier this month, claims no involvement.
http://www.pcworld.com/article/225943/playstation_network_down_for_a_day_or_two.html If this is legit, a whole lot of shit could be smashing all over the fan. Opinions/Comments? [editline]peeeeeenisssssssssss[/editline] As of late (US time) April 23rd, Sony has commented saying that they're "rebuilding our system" which I interpreted as adding/modifying hardware in datacenters to possibly prevent overflow of traffic. Somewhat reassuring in terms of data not being compromised, but that's still unknown. Source: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/04/23/latest-update-for-psnqriocity-services/ [editline]dicks[/editline] Video was published on the 23rd of April, 2011. [editline]da[/editline] Another video by the same bald, weird bearded man from the first video. Sony has also just stated on their EU twitter that they're looking into getting an ETA on when it will be back up (likely useless and just an attempt to get people to STFU). [editline]a[/editline] A Facepunch member has pointed out a Reddit link suggesting a new possible situation.
http://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/gx6o4/im_a_moderator_over_at_psxscenecom_the_real/
And a new one:
http://www.psu.com/news/11425?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+PlayStation-Universe+%28PlayStation+Universe%29
A source with close connections to Sony Computer Entertainment Europe reports that the attack to the PlayStation Network may be a bit deeper than originally reported by Sony. According to the source, who wishes to remain anonymous, the PSN sustained a LOIC attack (which created a denial-of-service attack) that damaged the server. There was also a concentrated attack on the PlayStation servers holding account information. In addition, “Admin Dev accounts were breached.” As a result, “Sony then shut down the PSN and [is] currently in the process of restoring backups to new servers with new admin dev accounts.” The SCEE source said Japanese servers may be restored tomorrow while the U.S. and E.U. servers will likely be operational the following day.
The bolded part worries me the most. If it's true, I seriously hope there isn't anyone who got their account compromised or deleted. On a lighter note, it would be mighty nice if that last bit was also true.
[editline]a[/editline] http://us.playstation.com/support/answer/index.htm?a_id=2356 [editline]a[/editline] Turns out the Reddit information may be false. they aren't making me like them because I just got a offer in my email for free games from PSN and now I can't access it.
they aren't making me like them because I just got a offer in my email for free games from PSN and now I can't access it.
A friend got the Infamous 2 Beta. [editline]22nd April 2011[/editline] Sony needs to get their shit in order.
they aren't making me like them because I just got a offer in my email for free games from PSN and now I can't access it.
Did you view the headers and make sure everything seemed legit?
Been awhile since I used my PS3, I only really use it for watching movies now. Even if Sony act like total Aholes when it comes to thier products being hacked and the whole removal of Other OS, PSN is a good network for gaming. Like the guy in the the video said, It's probably one (understandably) butt-hurt guy whos taken everything too far.
Did you view the headers and make sure everything seemed legit?
it was of course. It was offering older games and also had priced games.
it was of course. It was offering older games and also had priced games.
Well, fuck.
well, sony asked for it when they continued to raid peoples houses after they settled the suit. [editline]22nd April 2011[/editline] what he doesnt seem to understand is that because anon doesnt really have a structure, any hacking would have been done regardless of the nonexistent groups intents.
anon doesnt really have a structure
That's why I'm saying the pewp could hit the fan. I just hope they're on our side like they say they are.
well, sony asked for it when they continued to raid peoples houses after they settled the suit. [editline]22nd April 2011[/editline] what he doesnt seem to understand is that because anon doesnt really have a structure, any hacking would have been done regardless of the nonexistent groups intents.
:downs: Sony don't deserve this at all
:downs: Sony don't deserve this at all
theres actually a long list of stuff sony has done to "deserve" it (also done by almost every other major corp) but this is not about deserving it, revenge doesnt solve things. this is an attempt to get them to stop stuff they are still doing, this isnt about revenge.
Isn't PSN down for maintenance?
My friend was pissed because he just got Portal 2 for ps3.
My friend was pissed because he just got Portal 2 for ps3.
Though Portal 2 is a great game, this seems significantly more important to monitor. [editline]22nd April 2011[/editline]
Isn't PSN down for maintenance?
Watch the video.
2 wrongs don't make a right. They are going too far. It really makes me wonder if their >18 year old rule actually means actually means anything or if they are just idiotic 12 year old skiddies.
Anonymous fails at everything, they need to fuck off.
Anonymous fails at everything, they need to fuck off.
Anonymous doesn't exist. People can step in and out at any time they wish. You don't even need to step in to claim to be anon. Someone hacks something? OMG it's da ANON, save ur computas...
[editline]22nd April 2011[/editline] also you guys know this could be not anonymous, nobody claiming to be anon and to have brought down the psn has come forward. anyway, a 12 year old skiddie could not bring down PSN.
Oh yes, hit the PSN and hurt the consumer because that'll hurt Sony. I swear to god, whoever is doing this is a massive asshole because its not hurting Sony, its hurting those of us who like the console and exclusives that come with it. If you want to hurt Sony, hit their main site, not the god damn PSN network which is fucking free.
theres actually a long list of stuff sony has done to "deserve" it (also done by almost every other major corp) but this is not about deserving it, revenge doesnt solve things. this is an attempt to get them to stop stuff they are still doing, this isnt about revenge.
it doesn't matter what this is about. Attacking their services or causing problems for their users is not the way to react to a retraction of services. Sony are well within their rights to defend their products, their way of handling it was retarded, and their ongoing battle with Graf is equally stupidly handled, but it does not justify this kind of behaviour. If people who want CFW/ OtherOS want to be taken seriously they need to stop this "oMG Sony r demon coporate pigz fuk $onY XDXD" shit. It makes them look worse than anything Sony have done. Accepting that maybe Sony have a point in defending their software, and working around that is much more sensible. Remember, you don't actually own the software you are modifying, they are within their rights here. You only own the PS3 hardware (the same applies to Windows, you don't own Windows, and therefore cannot redistribute modified copies without the express permission of MS).
But noone's distributing modified copies of sony's software
Where have you been in the last couple of months?
well, sony asked for it when they continued to raid peoples houses after they settled the suit.
You have no idea what a raid is, do you?
But noone's distributing modified copies of sony's software
Except, y'know, the CFW? The entire reason they started this batshit insane lawsuit spree? The reason this retarded retaliation is occurring? [editline]22nd April 2011[/editline] dammit
"PlayStation Network outages may last up to a full day or two before the service is back up and running, Sony said today. The company is currently investigating the cause of the outages, which began late last night. No word yet on whether or not this outage is related to the same outage occurrences from earlier this month that was likely spurred on by the hacker group known as Anonymous."
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/116/1163299p1.html

They don't even use Sony's software. The aim is to install Linux or something else on the PS3 hardware.
Sony are well within their rights to defend their products,
"within their rights" is irrelevant, as those are legal rights and if you also make a point about the morality of taking playtime away from their customers, you need to make a point about the morality of the consumers supporting a company that uses slave labor for production. edit: (and dumps their electronic waste in 3rd world countries)

Slave Labor? Electronic Waste? Dude, your whole room right now is made up of more than 50% "Made In China".
Do you even know what you are talking about? Slave Labor? Electronic Waste? Dude, your whole room right now is made up of more than 70% "Made In China".
yes, and it seems you dont. [editline]22nd April 2011[/editline] nice % edit
I thought they still had to use Sony's firmware/software in some shape or form.
They'd definitely need the original firmware to decompile it and reverse engineer it, to make CFW that works almost like the original but with more freedom. BUT how the CFW is coded, that I have no idea about.
yes, and it seems you dont. [editline]22nd April 2011[/editline] nice % edit
Why yes, it is a nice % edit, thanks for noticing.
