• Replacement Note 7's Catching Fire, Samsung's known about the fault since Tuesday
Another replacement Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has caught fire, bringing the total to three this week alone. This one was owned by Michael Klering of Nicholasville, Kentucky. He told WKYT that he woke up at 4AM to find his bedroom filled with smoke and his phone on fire. Later in the day, he went to the hospital with acute bronchitis caused by smoke inhalation. "The phone is supposed to be the replacement, so you would have thought it would be safe," Klering told WKYT, saying that he had owned the replacement phone for a little more than a week. "It wasn’t plugged in. It wasn’t anything, it was just sitting there." The most disturbing part of this is that Klering’s phone caught fire on Tuesday and Samsung knew about it and didn’t say anything. And actually, it gets worse than that. Samsung asked Klering if they could take possession of the phone and he said no, though the company did pay to have it x-rayed — but the damning evidence comes in the form of a text message that Klering inadvertently received from a Samsung representative: (In source)
Source Source
A report from St. Paul's KSTP News says another replacement Galaxy Note 7 has been involved in an incident in Farmington Minnesota. According to the report, Thirteen-year-old Abby Zuis was holding her Note 7 when she felt a strange burning sensation. She dropped the device which began smoking and melted the protective case. Images of the phone show the typical split body and rectangular burn markings we've seen from other Note 7 phones that have exploded. The Note 7 in question was verified to be a replacement device according to The Verge, and the owner had turned the phone off as directed by the flight crew prior to the fire. The phone burned long enough and hot enough to burn through the carpet and into the subflooring on the Boeing 737. Lai said she quickly pulled the phone from her jeans pocket and threw it on the ground, then waited until the smoke cleared before picking the phone up and taking it back to her workplace in her phone case, the report said.
Source
If Samsung doesn't officially cancel the Galaxy Note 7's release, US carriers might try and do it themselves. AT&T is considering ending all further sales of the plagued Note 7, according to a report from Bloomberg tonight. A decision could come as soon as later this evening. If true, AT&T will immediately cease sales of the "safe" replacement devices — one of which caught fire on a Southwest Airlines plane Wednesday — and the carrier may also stop exchanging defective Note 7s for the replacement phones. Instead, AT&T will let its customers who've bought the Note 7 return it for another smartphone. The company confirmed it would allow this earlier today, but stopped short of saying it planned to stop sales and exchanges of Samsung's second batch of Note 7 devices altogether.
Source
Android Police rarely issues any kind of directive not to purchase a particular product. Recent news around the Galaxy Note7 is what I would deem cause for us to now do so. It's not because of our sincere desire for your safety so much as what the chaos around the Note brand right now means for owners of the Note7 down the road. Currently, AT&T, the US's largest (or second-largest, depending on the quarter) mobile operator, isactively seeding discussion about dropping the Galaxy Note7 entirely. There is no doubt in my mind that the other "big three" US operators are currently having similar talks. Of course they are. All four carriers are allowing customers with "safe" Note7 devices to return them. And operators and retailers around the world are likely considering doing the same. Even if it isn't their product, they're being associated with the "exploding Samsung." Who wants their brand to be coupled with discussion about spontaneously combusting phones?
Source Explosion of safe device in South Korea Explosion of safe device in Daejon Hanhwa Life Eagles Park Samsung accuses a user of an exploded South Korean device of fraud Hearsay about Kernel Sources having a charging voltage bug. More device explosions coming. What’s interesting to note is that Samsung isn’t ruling out a potential safety issue with replacement units that are supposed to be safe. The company says that if it finds a safety issue it will work with the CPSC to take “to take immediate steps to address the situation.” The company reassures customers that it takes every report seriously and that it appreciates their patience as it works through this process.
Source Update 10/09/16 AT&T and T-Mobile discontinue all sales of Galaxy Note 7 following 7 reports of fires in fixed devices over the last few days. I'm glad my plan doesn't renew until next year fucking hell I would have gotten this too this is getting way out of hand
2016 has been a strange and stupid year. I think Samsung has officially stopped giving a fuck regarding their phones
2016 has been a strange and stupid year. I think Samsung has officially stopped giving a fuck regarding their phones
which means they've stopped giving a fuck about the possible lives it could ruin and by ruin i mean people who could die
and by ruin i mean people who could die
The Samsung Pinto 7.
2016 has been a strange and stupid year. I think Samsung has officially stopped giving a fuck regarding their phones
The Note 7 is a really good phone. I don't know how Samsung managed to mess up this whole battery thing so bad though. I'm guessing they probably produced some phones with the old batteries and marked the serial numbers as safe before they eliminated all of them.

I'm willing to believe this, as nobody has ever accused Samsung of making good software, and it would explain why 'safe' batteries might randomly explode. Of course you can always grab the kernel sources and check yourself.
which means they've stopped giving a fuck about the possible lives it could ruin and by ruin i mean people who could die
They probably made a calculation of how much being sued would cost them versus the money they save on not making the phones safe enough. Just like the case with General Motors and how they knew of the dangers of the fuel tank in their Chevrolt Malibu but calculated they would still earn more from skipping money on safety vs getting sued. I hope a 4.9 billion dollar suing will be in charge this time too.
I think 2016 is Samsung's worst year. Exploding washing machines. Exploding phones and now exploding replacement phones? Christ.
Ironically, they're also recalling some of their refrigerators right now because they can randomly light on fire if not opened for some time.
And this has now done irreparable damage to the Samsung name imo. Everyone I know, even those not technology savvy, know that Samsungs are apparently catching fire. Couldn't be worse for your brand. Obviously Samsung are never going to go bust though.
I have a pretty big Samsung TV next to me right now. Should I be worried?
I have a pretty big Samsung TV next to me right now. Should I be worried?
Kill it before it kills you.
I have a pretty big Samsung TV next to me right now. Should I be worried?
Jokes or not, dont bring in the absurd
I've been feeling sorry for Samsung, but reading this I wonder if I even should anymore. Sure, something could go wrong the first time but if you fail to resolve an issue twice then something might be seriously wrong.
I'm glad my plan doesn't renew until next year fucking hell I would have gotten this too
I was planning on upgrading to a note 7 even with the first wave of battery issues, I love the inbuilt stylus on my note 3 but it really seems that it's just best to skip this one.
Glad I was put off of Samsung after how shithouse the Note 4 was.
That google phone seems really interesting. I'll be sure to consider it next time i buy a new phone
I've noticed my replacement note 7 heating up when doing simple things like fucking about in the settings menu or even switching between apps im calling my telco and seeing if i could move to a pixel phone
There's some hearsay that the publicly available kernel sources have a bug in them that would charge the battery at a higher voltage than any other Samsung phone. Samsung got lazy when they heard Apple were being silly doing away with the headphone jack. They should probably just kill the Note 7 and promote the S7E more instead as its still a quality phone.
Ironically, they're also recalling some of their refrigerators right now because they can randomly light on fire if not opened for some time.
Thanks for the warning, I'm buying a fridge and deciding between LG and Samsung
Thanks for the warning, I'm buying a fridge and deciding between LG and Samsung
I was going to warn you that the recall is only in Australia, but uh..... Yeah, you're very welcome. Hope that LG works out for you.
Glad I tried HTC in 2014 and never looked back, what a time for Nokia to come back though
The Samsung Pinto 7.
The Samsung Pintnote
Fuck - the number 6 really is unlucky.
Fuck - the number 6 really is unlucky.
This is the Note 7 tho
This is the Note 7 tho
Yup, totally the Note 7, not the 6th Note, just like floor 14 in my apartment building is totally not the 13th floor.
Meanwhile I have the normal Galaxy 7 and I've been loving it.
This is the Note 7 tho
2016
This is the Note 7 tho
You can rename it all you want, but it's still the 6th galaxy note
