Anatoly Kucherena, Snowden's Russian lawyer, has said Snowden has left Sheremetyevo airport and has received asylum in Russia for one year.
Kucherena said he handed the asylum papers to Snowden today, and Snowden then left the airport, where he has been stuck since arriving from Hong Kong on 23 June.
The lawyer said Snowden's whereabouts would now be kept secret for security reasons.
i wonder what's gonna happen next
Russia is getting way up on that high horse in the face of the US.
If this was a Russian guy stuck in the USA after leaking Russian security details it would be the same story.
Both countries would treat him like shit in the same position, the one which he flees to will always pretend to be morally better to get the upper hand.
I bet snowden is gonna get assassinated by the US

He buys a dashcam for his car and uploads the best Russian Driving videos in history.
Russia and the US are basically high schoolers at this point
Anyone want the rest of my popcorn? Shows over, as far as I'm concerned.
finally

Well it was, several times. (well those were criminals not leakers but same thing on their law basis)
USA said they didn't have an extradition treaty so told Russia to deal with it.
Russia dealt with it. Hindsight's a bitch I suppose.
I bet snowden is gonna get assassinated by the US
If the USA somehow got into Russia and assassinated him on Russian soil, that'd be the biggest fucking mistake the US could make

And the bird goes tweet.

They aren't against that sort of thing though, look at Osama. Whether or not Obama has the balls to do it in Russia though...

If such a thing did happen, it'd be very bad publicity for Obama, who said that the whole Snowden incident will not affect US / Russia relations.

Only reason they did it with osama was because we blamed EVERYTHING that happened on the singular figurehead that was Osama.

Osama organized (or was a figurehead for, or whatever) a terrorist attacked that killed thousands of people though...

Obama is in his second term, public opinion doesn't matter.
Well I hope the government is happy now, their witch hunt forced Snowden to seek asylum in the WORST possible place from the US's perspective

True, I guess.

But that's a good thing for Snowden.
Good. I hope he can continue to stay out of harm's way.
Someday, I hope this man is remembered as a hero.
Now he can eat at McDonald's!
now i'm wondering how the US is going to retort. perhaps the government will threaten to not participate in the olympics again?

Black bag on head, into the unmarked helicopter/van he goes.
I can't wait for all the political butthurt
I just hope Snowden doesn't find himself falling out of a plane over the ocean without a parachute (with or without an extra hole in his head).
wow that's the best passport photo i've ever seen
dude just can't stop stylizing
damn snowden has good hair
Why the US would ever assassinate this guy I don't know. He's already told the world about what the NSA really does, killing him would just give the guy's claims total legitimacy (if there was any doubt left).

finally another photo of snowden that the media can hopefully use
I really do worry for the guy, Russia's actions are about as shady as the US at this point, it wouldn't suprise me if they did tried something later
I bet snowden is gonna get assassinated by the US
Alright, I'll take you up on that bet.
What are we betting?
This does seem suspicious on Russia's side. They originally said he wasn't going to get asylum until he stopped leaking information. So they just had a change of heart and decided to let him in for a while?
