Around 45 minutes were removed from Martin Scorsese's controversial film - predominantly scenes depicting sex and drug-taking - and dialogue was muted to mask profanity, according to The National newspaper. One cinema-goer told Gulf News: "It's like looking at the Mona Lisa with sunglasses on. There are so many unorthodox cuts that you are never really sure what's happening". Another said she was so disappointed that she went home to download an uncut version from the internet. One cinema chain in Dubai even posting warnings that it had "no control on the censorship", and apologised to customers.
lol why show a movie if you're going to cut 45 minutes of it out.
Cutting 45 minutes out of it would completely destroy the point of the movie.
You are literally missing every other word if you censor out all the "fucks".
lol why show a movie if you're going to cut 45 minutes of it out.
dont worry, its still like three goddamn hours long even with the cuts
dont worry, its still like three goddamn hours long even with the cuts
It being so long was part of the point of the movie. It's a movie about excess, so much so that the movie itself is excessive in just about every way.

You know censorship has gone too far when it makes entire movies incomprehensible when applied. This is why I shell out for uncensored versions of movies and such here rather than watch censored or clipped versions on TV.
"fucks per minute" is probably my new favorite measuring tool.
Still wondering why that list doesn't include your mum
"fucks per minute" is probably my new favorite measuring tool.
and despite the measurements, not a single fuck was given :v:
"fucks per minute" is probably my new favorite measuring tool.
Fucks Per Minute
Fucks Per Minute
"Yeah dude I was so angry at that guy" "Oh man how fast were you swearing?" "Yeah dude about 14FPM"
Fucks Per Second is more accurate.
so does this mean people will have to get this on Blu-Ray to get the whole movie.?
so does this mean people will have to get this on Blu-Ray to get the whole movie.?
assuming a non-butchered version is released in Saudi Arabia, yeah.
assuming a non-butchered version is released in Saudi Arabia, yeah.
Knowing the Saudis, they'd proscribe it most likely.

Went to the cinema to watch it the other day, after the first couple of fucks, you eventually begin to not notice them :v:
Went to the cinema to watch it the other day, after the first couple of fucks, you eventually begin to not notice them :v:
Weird but true. Sure there were a few fucks but I never noticed there to be over a hundred of them.
The UAE really does make their censorship glaringly obvious. And it's so oddly specific, too. They were willing to air an episode of CSI:NY featuring a rotting corpses having all its flesh washed off it's bones (And this was at around lunchtime, I might add.) but have any scene involving a woman in revealing clothing or any episode of The Simpsons featuring Krusty exploring his juadism and expect jump cuts everywhere.
You might as well ban the movie if your censorship laws butcher a film like this.
