The group posits that the 3DS is made from "conflict mineral" -- material mined in the Congo by oppressed workers led by armed rebel groups. The scheme has been hatched by a representative of the Enough Project, a group dedicated to fighting human rights abuses and genocide. According to the spokesman, Nintendo is "allowing people to die and suffer grave human rights abuses for the sake of video game console production." "What I am asking you to do is to refuse to buy a Nintendo 3DS system until Nintendo announces plans to halt use of conflict minerals in production -- and this can only happen through monitoring of trade systems," states the group. "I am not in any way opposed to the 3DS itself -- I actually think it's one of the coolest things I've never seen in person. But I am not going to be one of the millions who looks the other way purely for entertainment, and I hope you will join me." It seems that quite a few gamers who joined the group aren't exactly steadfast comrades, having answered the call with vitriolic rejoinders: "Sure, whining like a faggot is cool and all, but seriously. Get the sticks out of your asses, kiddo', a few lost sales isn't going to do Nintendo any." Seems weird to me that the 3DS is being picked on when there are likely thousands of things that could be accused, but I guess it's all about what gets attention. What about you? Do you agree that Nintendo should be punished for possibly funding human rights abuse? Or do you accept this as a sad fact of capitalism in which the poor must exist for there to be wealth? More importantly ... how excited are you for Nintendogs?
What?
Dear god they're right, nintendo is evil we should stop them
technically milk is produced by enslaved cows but i cant complain
oh fuck i just killed 20 black men by pre-ordering a 3DS
I call bullshit.
Wait, what?!
oh fuck i just killed 20 black men by pre-ordering a 3DS
Shit gotta preorder 10
Shit gotta preorder 10
Wow, racist.
wow this is stupid.
Fucking kids, they keep exploiting the weak and dont care about it.
the fact that every 3DS has suffering and death in its production process adds to it's mystique. now i really gotta have one
Shit gotta preorder 10
Omg he hates black peoples, quick TH89 ba- :saddowns:
This is more common then you'd hope. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coltan The original story is badly phrased and over dramatised, but it's possible seeing as The Congo exports a fair amount of the stuff
What the christ
I've read about this before, apparently Nintendo and other companies do have a fairly big problem with conflict minerals and all that. Sony and Microsoft and some others have worked to source resources from more acceptable areas, but Nintendo apparently hasn't done much towards resolving the problem. And ol "whining like a faggot", good way to make your point.
Well boo fucking hoo. Hundreds of thousands of people who vote pro-Nintendo with their wallets are going to drown out the voices of some whiny babies who should wake up and choose to instead get involved with organizations that actually are on the spot helping the oppressed people. But no, that would be too difficult! So instead they're just complaining about the evil capitalism while enjoying products that come from countries that have what we westerners would call horrible working conditions on a daily basis. e: @ ThePuska : Yeah, they don't complain about capitalism afaik but stating that Nintendo "allows people to die and suffer grave human rights abuses for the sake of video game console production." sounds like they hold Nintendo somehow morally responsible for their deaths.
So that's how the 3D works! It's with magic fueled by Congodudes. Now everythig becomes clear, Hitler, 2012, my spoiled apples, all linked together... But I still don't give a damn.

I wonder if Nintendo use foxconn to manufacturer their stuff. If they do then they are obviously the single most evil company on the planet.
automerge broke
Half the shit you buy comes from places like this. Especially things like chocolate and diamonds.
Every other game console/electronic is manufactured in a sweatshop in China for the past...20 years? Glories of Capitalism.
I like how everyone is making fun of the OP's article when the people complaining are making completely valid points
I like how everyone is making fun of the OP's article when the people complaining are making completely valid points
It was a pretty big deal in Finland when Nokia was accused of the same.
I like how everyone is making fun of the OP's article when the people complaining are making completely valid points
A company that makes games is being accused though. That makes it OK. :downs:
Half the shit you buy comes from places like this. Especially things like chocolate and diamonds.
People (quite rightly) moan about it releating to them things when someone suddenly uncovers the facts. When it's out of peoples minds no one seems to mind or care.
technically milk is produced by enslaved cows but i cant complain
You're putting oppressed workers mining for a luxury item on the same level as a cow.
They have a point but I won't protest the furthest link in a chain. This is a press stunt, their real issues need to be brought up in a more direct manner, to the source of the suffering.
