Holy. FUCK. A Palestinian Minister has been killed by the IDF while participating in an anti-apartheid protest. Shit is going to get far, far worse for Palestine, if not the entire middle east because of this action.
Palestinian minister Ziad Abu Ein has died after clashes with Israeli forces, reportedly after inhaling large amounts of tear gas in the occupied West Bank, sources tell Al Jazeera. Abu Ein, who was the head of the Anti-Wall and Settlement Commission, died in Ramallah hospital on Wednesday after inhaling the gas at a protest against the separation barrier near the village of Turmusayya northeast of Ramallah. Witnesses, including an Israeli journalist and a Reuters news agency photographer, also said he was struck by the soldiers. Activists were planting olive trees by the illegal settlement of AliAd when the soldiers attacked them and fired large amounts of tear gas at the group. Pictures of Abu Ein, who is a member of Fatah's Revolutionary Council, knocked out and on the ground quickly circulated on social media sites. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas quickly condemned the death of Abu Ein calling it a "barbaric act which we cannot be tolerated." Abbas also said "all necessary steps" will be taken after an investigation into Abu Ein's death is carried out. Al Jazeera's Imtiaz Tyab, reporting from West Jerusalem, said tensions have been running high in Israel and the Palestinian territories, with consistent protests in the West Bank in the past several weeks. “The fact that a member of the government has died will further inflame the situation,” he said. Ramallah and El Bireh governorate have announced three days of mourning over Abu Ein's death. More to follow...
A storm is coming, a storm that could've been prevented...
shit's about to go down
"A" minister, not "the"
Pardon my ignorance, then. Editing now.
Israel investigates Israel. Concludes Israel is innocent.
shit's about to go down
Nothing is going to happen. People are going to faux outrage. The Arab countries will again call out Israel. Israel will do nothing. The Arab countries will nothing. And the Palestinians will suffer as usual.
Israel investigates Israel. Concludes Israel is innocent.
"He was coming right for us."
Whatever the hell is coming, its going to be nasty if this stuff keeps up.
Fuck Israel.
-snip- Wording of the text made it sound like the tear gas killed him.
Let the immense fatal slapfight between Israel and Palestine continue! (Unfortunately.) Honestly, I don't see an end to this feud. You got strong opinions that are tied to strong cultures on both sides. World War IV will have ended and the world would be a nuclear wasteland and Israel and Palestine will still find a way to fuck each other up/annoy the shit out of each other. Soon, they'll resort to just making giant 10ft high walls of shit on their enemy's lands. [editline]10th December 2014[/editline] Extremely relevant: [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/BZeospo.png[/thumb]
Whatever the hell is coming, its going to be nasty if this stuff keeps up.
Nastier for Palestine compared to Israel. Beneficial to Israel compared to Palestine. Surely there's a benefit to keep this conflict ongoing, at least for one party, no?
Note that Ziad Abu Ein was a terrorist imprisoned for life for murdering two Israeli teenagers, and released in a prisoner exchange. He died from a heart attack.
you cant kill a minister of a non existent state -israel
Do you have a source on that?
PLEASE. (I really do want to know!)
Do you have a source on that?
Only "source" i found is from a JIDF site claiming its combating Antisemitism and legitimacy of Israel. lol
Only "source" i found is from a JIDF site claiming its combating Antisemitism and legitimacy of Israel. lol
Don't claim to find a source and then not link it and then discredit it. We can do that after we've seen it. Following the gamergate controversy I am just not very keen on 'listening and believing', that's all. tl;dr link pls [editline]10th December 2014[/editline] Also, according to http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-30411523 At the end of the article there is information about Abu Ein's previous escapades. He might not have been a very good man, but he did not deserve to die after being acquitted.
"It's extremely sad that a colleague and an old friend has been killed in such a cruel way" she said. "Ziad was guilty of nothing more than planting olive trees where Israel would uproot trees." Mr Abu Ein once received the death sentence, commuted to life imprisonment, from a court in Israel for a 1979 bombing that killed two Israeli teenagers.
I'd prefer not to take any stances from this, but as far as we know, the death will be investigated and we know that he was hit by a tear gas canister, which most likely lead to his death. The BBC article also states that his health conditions might have been related to this, like a poster above me has noted from a non-existent source.
At one point, Mr Abu Ein was hit by a tear gas canister, Mr Aloul said. The Reuters photographer said he had seen Mr Abu Ein being struck by a hand on the neck during an altercation with two soldiers. An AFP news agency photographer said the minister had been hit in the chest.

Photos of the incident showed Mr Abu Ein lying unconscious before he was taken away in an ambulance. He died before reaching hospital in the nearby city of Ramallah. There are reports that he had a health condition that may have contributed to his death.
I do not know much about him, but I do really hope he has changed in character since 1985 until 2014.
you cant kill a minister of a non existent state -israel
Extra funnies for Israel being a country that placed one of its hitmen as prime minister in 1999 :v:
Let the immense fatal slapfight between Israel and Palestine continue! (Unfortunately.)
Slapfight? This is more like Palestine getting a lucky hit in with a rubber glove then getting shoved to the ground and forced into the fetal position as Israel continuously beats on them with his buddy USA while they're on the ground.

[editline]10th December 2014[/editline] Extremely relevant: [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/BZeospo.png[/thumb]
Palestine would be lucky if it was that equal. Except it's borders are shrinking. It's infrastructure fucked. It's basicly out of money. Nobody is really coming to help. It's people and rights are both being killed faster than a gerbil in a punching bag full of broken glass. I've played enough games of civilization to know when the game is over.

The autopsy results are in and, well, sigh:
Israeli and Palestinian pathologists disagreed Thursday on whether a blow to the body or a bad heart was the main cause of death of a Palestinian Cabinet minister who collapsed shortly after scuffling with Israeli troops during a West Bank protest. Palestinian doctors said Ziad Abu Ain died from a blow, not natural causes. Israeli doctors said the 55-year-old died from a blockage of the coronary artery due to arterial bleeding that could have been caused by stress.

As an Israelian, what is your view on this?
I'm no coroner, and I wasn't at the autopsy so I really have no idea. I guess if all medical examiners there are professional they probably agree on the facts but disagree on the interpretation. The Israeli coroner, who is the head of Israel's Pathological Institute has released a little more details you can see here:
The report, being led by Palestinian, Jordanian and Israeli pathologists, said the death was caused by blockage in the coronary artery, and said there were signs of light internal bleeding and localized pressure on the neck, at least according to the Israeli version of the report published by the Health Ministry The deceased suffered from heart disease, and there was evidence that plaque buildup were clogging more than 80% of his blood vessels, as well as signs that he had suffered heart attacks in the past.
So a combination of a bad heart and being pushed around by Israeli police, I guess. As for the entire situation? The Palestinians were protesting an illegal settler outpost after the assholes living there were attacking them over the week. They also appealed to the Israeli supreme court to take down the settlement. So their protest is I think justified, although these kind of demonstrations tend to get violent so I don't know what was the point of having the protest reach the defensive line the authorities put on the edge of the settlement. As for the guy himself? He was convicted of killing two Israeli teens in a terror attack. I won't shed any tears for him.
According to the BBC article you linked to he wasn't acquitted, but released as part of a prisoner exchange.
"Acquitted" By the time someone much more intelligent than I comments on the issue, the haters are nowhere to be found.
part of me thinks that people will only start doing things about israel when they put people in camps
OP is lying. He died of a heart attack and an IDF medic tried to revive him. Nice bait though: http://www.algemeiner.com/2014/12/10/british-reporter-palestinians-blocked-israeli-medic-from-aiding-pa-official-and-convicted-terrorist-ziad-abu-ein/
Dude died of a heart attack after being released from prison for bombing two innocent civilians and then was made a political leader in Palestine. I won't lose any sleep over his untimely death.
part of me thinks that people will only start doing things about israel when they put people in camps
Honestly. I doubt anyone would even do anything even when camps with "arbeit macht frei" on their gates begin appearing.
