Paul Cusick is a British multi-instrumentalist, who in Summer 2009 released his debut solo album called "Focal Point". He had previously been the lead guitarist for other bands (Gabirel, Ripped & Riversea) but in 2008 began work on a solo album.
Critics have likened him to a cross between Pink Floyd and Porcupine Tree, with a little Dream Theater and Nine Inch Nails thrown in for good measure. However the choruses of some of his songs draw similar catchy vocal melodies from more mainstream bands such as U2 and Coldplay. His guitar style and skill has been compared to that of David Gilmour, Steve Hackett and Steven Wilson.
I heard about this guy through an ad on Facebook. I'm a big fan of both Pink Floyd and Porcupine tree, so I decided to give it a listen, and boy was I surprised. Turns out this album may have been one of the hidden gems of 2009. As soon as I have enough money I'll be ordering a copy of the album from his website (because as far as I'm aware it's not in shops).
I also found out he's from a town not ten miles from where I live, so I e-mailed him to see if he'll be doing any gigs in York in the upcoming months.
Here's a few songs from Focal Point for you to listen to and decide:

Bumping this because there seems to be a progressive renaissance happening in the music board right now and this guy deserves to be part of it
Saw an advert for this guy, seems like awesome music. If I didn't blow the last of my spare change on new guitar strings I would get his album.
