I could see any relevant meta-threads to post this is, so I've created my own.
Basically I've just purchased a Corsa-D '09 model, It's a really nice car and all, but the speaker system is lacking a little bit for my needs, since It's my first car I'm a complete noob to this whole kind of thing! No idea about fittings or oh to install it! So I just wondered if anyone out there can recommend me any, I'm not entirely bothered about the price, less than £150 would be nice and it would also be awesome if it fit my car without having to saw half the door off.
I don't know much about that car (American) - but I think the door speakers are 17cm, you're gonna need an adapter plate if you wanna run aftermarket speakers.
I think there's are tweeters too? 3.5cm.
I always recommend, when changing out all speakers, to do the entire sound system. (New headunit, amps, etc for the best overall sound)
But if you wanna skip all that, and save some coin I would look into Infinity Kappa's.
I usually run them off an amp, but a few times went directly from the stock headunit, and they still sounded 100x better then stock.
Looks like door speakers are 17cm (6.5") up front and 13cm (5.25") in the rear. With your 150 euro budget, you're limiting your options quite a bit. The most common initial upgrade is an aftermarket head unit amplifying your stock speakers - this will add extra functionality such as USB, Bluetooth, handsfree calling, etc. depending on what you buy. Generally a quality head unit will provide better sound through your stock speakers as they have advanced equalization options.
After the head unit, source new speakers. I'd leave the stock tweeters alone, as they're likely to provide ample high range sound. 4 new speakers for the doors and a new HU should provide a hefty sound upgrade and keep you within your price bracket.
Drak_Thing says he recommends ripping everything out and starting from scratch, and while I am in agreance with him in terms of sound quality, it's a very large investment to make. For your application, new HU and speakers are a great place to start.
Excellent (pricey) brands:
JL Audio
Rockford Fosgate
Infiniti
MB Quart
Alpine
Kicker
Autotec
Hifonics
Blaupunkt
Clarion
Boston Acoustics
Cadence
Crunch
Mediocre (cheap) brands:
Pyle
Pyramid
Blitz
SPL
Soundstorm
Legacy
Generally when it comes to car audio, you really do get what you pay for. To recap:
Buy a new head unit - consider the features you're looking for and select accordingly. You'll also need a head unit dash adapter and corresponding harness to hook it up with.
Buy 4 new speakers - 17cm front and 13cm rear. For your application I'd recommend coaxials in the rear and components up front to run with the tweeters.
The next upgrade at this point would be a subwoofer. You've got plenty of space in the hatch for anything from an 8" to a 12". Personally, 10" is the lowest I'd go for nice, tight, punchy bass, but a 12" will provide better SPL and super low range performance. Feel free to PM me if you have questions.
Thanks a lot for the info guys! :) I've been looking around a bit and they generally seem to be sold in pairs, would it be a good idea to leave the back ones alone and put that money into better front speakers? Or would that sound stupid
It would be uneven in quality especially if the rears are very worn; you could hear vibrations and rattling etc. It's best to get all four. Balance your cost vs. quality.
I personally have had good experience with these brands:
Alpine
Kenwood
Pioneer
Sony
Kicker
Clarion
Installation varies by car but it's very easy to install speakers. You just remove whatever interior paneling hides the speakers. Then unscrew them and unplug the wires from the stereo headunit or amp. Just replace them pretty much, make sure you screw them down tight to prevent mentioned rattling and vibrations.

Buy all 4 speakers and a head unit. You should be able to afford it with your budget. Good head unit brands:
JVC
Alpine
Pioneer
Kenwood
Dual
Sony
Alright, thanks a lot for the help, if I pushed up to like £200 would I be looking at like a £60 head unit and 140 on speakers? Seems to be reasonable like that.
Well well well! My favorite type of thread!
Not surprising to me that the speakers aren't cutting it for you. Those Euro model cars are equipped with junk. The last Opel I did (Saturn Astra, here) sounded like total jank.
That being said, looks like if we go with £200 worth of stuff that'd be about $325usd (so I'll talk based upon that).
The big thing you're gonna want to figure out is what kinda of musical reproduction you want in the car. Do you want bass from your upgrade? Volume? Clarity? Smoothness? I'll toss out some options for each!
You'll notice I'll post some components (separate tweeter) and some coaxial (built in tweeter) for the fronts.. the difference really is that with components you get some play room with where you mount the tweeter to get optimum imaging from where you place it!
For bass, in my experience Alpine reigns supreme. Bassiest speakers I've ever mucked about with.

For clarity and smooth response there's a decent amount of options. I personally like Polk, and Pioneer D series. These will be accurate overall reproduction without leaning too far toward bass or blaring treb.

Or for some volume and brightness upgrade there's Kenwood, Pioneer A series, Kicker.. lots here. But don't expect the most bass response from these. They generally pair up best with a sub since they're so bright and crispy on the highs.

I'm pretty sure on this car you'll have to mangle the factory speakers to make their housings into speakers brackets for the new speakers, or just make new ones out of wood, or buy plastic ones to make life easy:

take apart the doors to scope it before buying some, ya know.
As for a radio... so much to choose from. I like Kenwood, personally. But like they said, Alpine, Pioneer, Sony.. they all have their ups and downs. Decide what features you'd like (bluetooth, USB for ipods/thumb drives, color change, etc) and then really going off of the user interface/ looks is a pretty solid way to choose these days, as long as you stay away from the crap radios like Pyle, Boss, Dual, etc.
Well, there is a lot of speculation what is the perfect bass speakers. It just totally depends on what you want to get and how much money you want to invest into it. If you want more bass you should just dig it. Probably don't think too much about numbers, just components. I too spent sleepless nights wondeing what is good.
Check these https://liamscar.com/best-car-speakers-for-bass/ They're all pretty good and hopefully you can finally decide what suits you best. Cheers.
