If you’ve used a copy of Chrome on a Windows tablet recently then you’ll probably be familiar with the poor scrolling performance and general touch support, and it’s something Google will now address across all of its versions of Chrome. Google revealed today that it plans to support Pointer Events, a standard that was first introduced by Microsoft in Internet Explorer. Google has traditionally focused its efforts on supporting Touch Events, a method used by Apple in its Safari browser. Microsoft, Mozilla, and Opera have all adopted Pointer Events, and Google says that feedback from the web community has led to the change in heart. With support for Pointer Events, scrolling and touch interactions should improve dramatically in Chrome. Google’s Rick Byers admits "replacing all touch event handlers with pointer event handlers will address the main longstanding source of scroll-start jank we see on Android."
Now all we need is a proper Windows 8 Mode not that psuedo-ChromeOS garbage.
Jesus Christ finally.
Now all we need is a proper Windows 8 Mode not that psuedo-ChromeOS garbage.
Windows RT is dead, Google would be better off making it a Universal app instead of reworking the WinRT mode.
Huh. Might be time to update my Chrome for Android install, then.

Why do people hate the Verge?
Windows RT is dead, Google would be better off making it a Universal app instead of reworking the WinRT mode.
What WinRT mode? Chrome isn't RT friendly in the least.
glad to see people start getting over their hate for microsoft for the sake of better internet [editline]26th March 2015[/editline] ironic as hell considering what kind of company microsoft used to be
What WinRT mode? Chrome isn't RT friendly in the least.
Their RT mode is the "Relaunch Chrome in Windows 8 mode" option.
Am I just lucky that Ive never had an issue with Chrome on my android, or is this something else?
Do people hate the Verge? Why do people hate the Verge?
It's a gamergate thing, who knows They tend to lean toward Apple in product reviews but it's not like they lie about anything or just ripoff other news sources.
I've never noticed any problems on my Chrome for Android. What am I missing?
Chrome on my note isn't bad but it's downright painful on my surface pro. They need to work on the UI for high dpi screens and I'll be happy.
I've never noticed any problems on my Chrome for Android. What am I missing?
it's kind of a resource hog but there's not much wrong with it
Their RT mode is the "Relaunch Chrome in Windows 8 mode" option.
That's not RT mode. That makes Chrome operate as a Modern App, but you can't make it run on Windows RT. That'd require installing Chrome to your desktop, first, which you cannot to on Windows RT.
Do people hate the Verge? Why do people hate the Verge?
The iVerge hasn't had an honest opinion on anything in the last half a decade.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CI5xnkLk8IA
Wow. They have a hardon for Apple [sp]Fucking hipsters[/sp]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CI5xnkLk8IA
They never shit on the surface either, in fact, the verge praised it (tho they still compared it to the iPad)
Firefox doesn't have this problem™
it's kind of a resource hog but there's not much wrong with it
Kinda is an understatement. It opens up every addon you have for each window/tab. [editline]27th March 2015[/editline]
It's a gamergate thing, who knows They tend to lean toward Apple in product reviews but it's not like they lie about anything or just ripoff other news sources.
Combination buying the line from the 'news' sources that are directly accused of unethical behavior and the fact they heavily favor Apple products.
It's a gamergate thing, who knows They tend to lean toward Apple in product reviews but it's not like they lie about anything or just ripoff other news sources.
Their article about Matt Taylor was downright despicable, and their reviews are completely useless. It's fine to have bias, but The Verge doesn't even try to stay objective anymore (look at the Ellen Pao reporting - they drew conclusions as soon as they jumped on the story, and then it turned out to actually not be a black and white case - embarrassing). I don't find The Verge trustworthy when it comes to technology, and I don't care for their other reporting at all. Their video work is great, but that's about it really. Obviously some people hate them because of gamergate or whatever, but The Verge was on the way down way before that hit.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CI5xnkLk8IA
I honestly thought that was just some guy doing a parody at first
Awesome!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CI5xnkLk8IA
Oh fair enough. That's pretty embarrassing. I never watch their reviews, only their news coverage, which is shaky but fine to put up with.
There isn't really any tech blog that compares to the Verge right now in production quality and actual journalistic quality. On p much all the other sites it feels like they are copying press releases verbatim.

Then you have loads of more specialized blogs that output quality. On the other end of the spectrum you have sites like Anandtech that publishes articles less frequent, but much more informative articles. The Verge is basically form over function.
I've never noticed any problems on my Chrome for Android. What am I missing?
This is about chrome for windows not android afaik Try using IE on windows 8 with a touch screen laptop/tablet, it is miles better than how Chrome handles touch screen support
This is about chrome for windows not android afaik Try using IE on windows 8 with a touch screen laptop/tablet, it is miles better than how Chrome handles touch screen support
From the article:
Google’s Rick Byers admits "replacing all touch event handlers with pointer event handlers will address the main longstanding source of scroll-start jank we see on Android."
Do people hate the Verge? Why do people hate the Verge?
it's become iHeaven really. Someone made a spoof earlier. Their articles are horribly one sided and loaded (when it comes non direct tech stuff) and their testing utterly sucks with stuff like having no standardised battery tests etc.
