Phantasm 1-4 are a series of horror films from writer/director Don Coscarelli (Bubba-Ho-Tep, The Beastmaster). Beginning with Phantasm, released in 1979, they tell the story of Mike Pearson's run ins with a mysterious otherworldly figure known as The Tall Man and the surreal apocalypse he is causing. It's up to Mike, his brother and the local ice-cream man to stop him.
These are some of my favourite films and you'll have trouble finding anything like them. They all operate on bizarre dream logic with a dose of [I]awesome[/I] for good measure.

The first is the best in my opinion, as it was written without a sequel in mind and can be taken in a number of ways.

The series hasn't finished, Phantasm IV ends on a cliffhanger (they all do) and there hasn't been a fifth yet.
