Source [release]Investors at the CIA and Google are backing a company called "Recorded Future" that monitors tens of thousands of websites, blogs and Twitter accounts in real time in order to find patterns, events and relationships that may predict the future. The news comes amidst Google’s so-called "Wi-Spy" scandal, that refers to revelations that Google’s Street View cars operating in some thirty countries snooped on private Wi-Fi networks over the last three years. What. Why do you need to predict the future. It's like we're getting closer and closer to having a thought police.

Don't they already have a bot like this, I forgot what it's called. EDIT: Ah yes, Web bot.

Predicting the future market trends no doubt.
Misleading title. Google and the CIA have nothing to do with each other here. They're both investing in the same company, that's all.

Wow, good job on announcing that.
Google is working with the NSA, however, and has (purchased?) Zynga. Welcome our new overlords.
Bye, freedom and anonymity. Hello there, blissful over watch of governments and agencies. Gentlemen, put on your tinfoil hats. :tinfoil:

Well we are screwed...
Thought police : /.
Chaos theory. This project will fail for that reason alone.
oh god public websites being monitored by a private company the end of freedom is neigh
A private company that is funded by 1. The biggest intelligence agency in the world 2. the biggest search engine in the world, that happens to be infamous for saving personal info of its users in the past Who knows, the whole company could be a front for the CIA. But I'm just paranoid.
What. Why do you need to predict the future. It's like we're getting closer and closer to having a thought police.
Agreed, this is fucking creepy. The future is looking a little too 1984.
Predicting the future isn't really 1984 as much as Minority Report with their Department of Precrime. Also, am I the only one excited to see what will come of this?
Legend has it if you say "Dolpahin tweanty Oabama kiall" in the same sentence without the extra a's that web bot thinks you're scheming to kill Obama and they use a dolphin to kill you within twenty minutes. Wait a minute... :gonk: --

I wonder what sort of readings they're getting from scanning 4chan.
What. Why do you need to predict the future. It's like we're getting closer and closer to having a thought police.
Thoughtcrime does not entail death: thoughtcrime is death. On a more serious note, this sounds like something DARPA would do, not the CIA.
GUYS WE'RE BEING RECORDED! Let's greet future readers of this archived page! :v:
Chaos theory. This project will fail for that reason alone.
What the fuck are you talking about?
CITIZENS. WE HAVE DETECTED DISSiDENT DISCUSSION IN THIS INTERNET FORUM THREAD. YOU ARE ALL CHARGED OF MENTAL MALCOMPLIANCE, DESIST. CAUTERIZE. CONTAIN. CLAMP.
I just read the Foundation series earlier and this reminds me way too much about it. :v:
I don't really see that much wrong with this, As long as they don't use it to alter anything currently online and be very careful with how they react because of the information its fine. They're not going to steal website accounts/passwords and they're monitoring things at a mass level, Instead of going one by one at least thats how I see it.
