I caught the Giant Bomb stream from earlier this morning, and I think they (and a couple other outlets) had a defective headset, or there was a recent update- there was a jittery problem that caused elements of the game to pulse in and out as the games tried their best in determining where you and your controller(s) were at all times. Even Jeff Gerstmann, known for having an iron stomach for VR games, couldn't handle any of the games that dealt with this. Hopefully this is ironed out as time goes on, because all that makes me very wary of the future of this thing.
For that price, and being able to run on a 300$ hardware, there is not much to complain about.

There is a lot to complain about if it's virtually unusable if the tracking issues persist.

Tracking issues sound minor and should not be a problem if your room setup is okay.

They're not minor at all. On GB's stream they were almost entirely persistent. And they tried it in several different locations, under different lighting conditions, at different distances and they almost always had those tracking issues. And it's the kind of tracking issues that can make even the strongest of stomachs really sick really quickly. There is a possibility that it was an issue that is specific to certain headsets so it might not be an inherent problem with their tracking but there's no way to know yet.

tracking issues literally prevent you from playing the game so "Minor" is really not cutting it

I was actually commenting on the video where he made only minor complaints. I didn't even see the GiantBomb post since it wasn't even loaded when I entered the thread.
Also worth noting that the tracking issues aren't just for the headset, so even if that gets fixed, the controller tracking is still going to be kinda poor. It's basically impossible to keep a controller completely still, so anything that requires precise controller placement is going to be pretty terrible.
His repeating left-hand gesture distracts me everytime I see his videos.
skip to 3:33:00 if you want to see how bad the jitter issue is

Honestly watching past that jitter moment really made me want this. Or I guess just VR in general. It looks like so much fun.
I'm not gonna pony up the cash for even the PSVR right now though, so hopefully later down the line when I finally dive in issues like that will be fixed. Personally I think PSVR looks like the most promising out of the VR sets. Not by a ton, but Sony definitely made some better choices with it than the others. Hopefully it gets good content support and doesn't just become another dead-in-the-water gimmick with no more support half a year in.
i have serious motion sickness issues, on a bad day i can't even take the bus for more than 10 minutes
the nausea stuff makes it sound like vr is something i can't do
Honestly, VR would be more practical for console games than PC overall because consoles would prime it for living room and personal room setups, rather than the ultra technical setups for aficionados and space requirement for PC setups.
Neat to see that it primes itself for a respective game and also the Pro to get around the limited pixel density.

What ? VR space requirements depend on the headset and the game not the box you plug it in.
from my experience at the demos they had going at best buy, i didn't find any jitter. i think it's just a pre-release bug that'll be sorted out shortly. fingers crossed though.

I mean PC games seem to want to specifically go for larger spaces that require some more delicate usage, setup and care. Console games with VR are more likely to be based around the idea that you're operating in a living room or at least a sizable space already, or in situations that won't need as much setup. Which means they'll probably be less dynamic in some sense but have more general consumer-friendly setup and design by nature of how the VR exclusive titles will have to apply to the consumer.
I really think it's going to be smart to wait for 2nd generation VR. Devs really need some time to figure it out still and the hardware needs just a little bit more polish.

All the VR products out now are 1st generations products, and most 1st generation products are somewhat more like prototypes. It all depends on how excited you are to try it or if you're one of those people who likes trying new things as soon as they come out. I tried VR with an Oculus developer kit and I loved it so I'm getting the PSVR next month, but obviously if you can keep your excitement at bay it'd be a lot more sensible to wait for 2nd generation VR, as is the case with any new product.
I bought the Apple Watch out of really wanting to try a smartwatch. It has some issues but I knew this was going to be the case when I bought it, I still enjoy it but I recommended any of my friends who were interested in waiting for the next one to come out
The second generation of PSVR will be great, however the first generation is I think the best step forward anyone's made for VR. It's created an affordable system that integrates with most gamer's setups and is super simple to use in comparison to oculus and vive. It's the best option because of it's consumer friendly nature.
