CARSON CITY — The Nevada Assembly on Thursday voted 26-14 on a resolution that asks Congress to propose an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that would rein in independent political campaign spending.
https://www.reviewjournal.com/news/2017-legislature/nevada-legislature-passes-proposal-to-overturn-citizens-united/
Citizens United was the biggest blow to democracy before Trump's election.
Glad to see this happen, unfortunately we probably would see CU stay because of the Supreme Court being mostly conservative again. Who knows, we might be surprised by a 5-4 vote to overturn CU.
Citizens United was the biggest blow to democracy before Trump's election.
Yea to American democracy. But due of movements like Wolf PAC (The Young Turks PAC) successfully convinced politicians to get money out of politics in almost States to undo what Citizens united or other Super PAC related laws did in past decades.
Can someone explain to me what Citizens United is?
Can someone explain to me what Citizens United is?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citizens_United_v._FEC TL;DR court case that went to the Supreme Court and the decision was that the government could not cap political donations from corporations. The effect was basically to legalize unlimited corporate contributions to politicians. As much as Congress was bought and paid for before, it definitely is now.

What I think he said is- "Yeah, at least to American Democracy. But thanks to the efforts of movements like Wolf PAC (The Young Turks PAC), having successfully convinced politicians to get money back out of politics at the state level, at least we're starting to undo what Citizens United and other corrupt campaign finance laws have done in the past few decades." And I'd agree that it's a good thing we're pushing back against this stuff. However, I'm worried that it's too little, too late.
Undoing Citizens United is so critical to getting this country back on track. Finding a way to hold media accountable is a second one - we're in a stage of yellow journalism way, way worse than we've seen before. People don't even see opposing opinions. Build up inclusive, civics and class-based national identity, throw out every single old-ass oligarchic paid-for politician, fix our drug & prison policies, remove gerrymandering, restore media accountability (somehow, even though the internet's fucked it permanently), and just fucking find a way to eliminate corporate lobbying entirely. Pull all that off and then we'll maybe be able to get this mid-air flaming shit-coated trainwreck back on track.
