• Tony abbott in severe hot water over 'scholarship' awarded to daughter
Prime Minister Tony Abbott appears to be in some quite severe hot water surrounding a scholarship awarded to his daughter Frances Abbott. Ms Abbott completed a three year Bachelor of Design course at the private Whitehouse Institute of Design, for which she was awarded a $60,000 scholarship. Here's where the problems are arising. The Whitehouse Institute has claimed that what Ms Abbott was awarded was a "Chairman's Scholarship." Internal documents have shown that it is, in fact, a "Managing Director's Scholarship." The terminology doesn't pose much of an issue. However the school has declined to disclose how many times that particular scholarship has been awarded in the past. And, in fact, the school's website currently clearly states that it "does not currently offer scholarships to gain a place into the Bachelor of Design." The school does offer scholarships for exceptional students to continue their studies at the school, but none for students prior to entry. Ms Abbott received her scholarship prior to attending the Whitehouse Institute. For her three years at the private, and exclusive, school, she paid a grand total of $7,546 tuition, for a degree that ordinarily costs $68,182. Where the Prime Minister runs into trouble is due to the fact that he did not declare the scholarship on the Members' Interests Register, which discloses political gifts. Mr Abbott has stated the scholarship was not included because it was earned on merit. But the nature of that merit is in severe question, with prior relationships between the Whitehouse Institute Chairman of the Board, Les Taylor and Tony Abbott emerging. Taylor has been shown to have donated large sums to the NSW Liberal Party, and evidence is emerging that Taylor expressly approached Frances about attending the Whitehouse school, and not a rival. If the scholarship is found to have been awarded on grounds other than merit, then the Prime Minister's political career is in severe trouble. Man, the hole is getting deeper and deeper with Abbott
Haha if failing to declare a $3,000 bottle of wine is all it takes to topple over and destroy a State Premier's (equivalent of Prime Minister) political career and cause the said Premier to resign, Abbott better be very careful with how he approaches this. [editline]22nd May 2014[/editline] How legitimate is Pedestrian? I can't find a link to any similar article on ABC, and if ABC doesn't report it then it probably isn't a valid article.
His daughter's nose is the same as his, it's like two twins.
God this guy seems like a scumbag.
He has some funny ears, reminds me of Garry lineker
Man, the hole is getting deeper and deeper with Abbutt
That's how i read it at first lol
His daughter's nose is the same as his, it's like two twins.
Often times, I see girls who look pretty, but then I see their dad and realize they're just a female version of a man. Grosses me out. Why does a politician's daughter need a scholarship? Aren't most politicians wealthy? At least I know here in America, a congressmen earns like 100+ k a year. Which would be enough to fund a college tuition.
Man, the hole is getting deeper and deeper with Abbott
Soon he will reach China.
Soon he will reach China.
No, he'll reach the mantle and get burned up. Which is infinitely more preferable.
So if like, all Australians hate this guy, how did he even get elected?
So if like, all Australians hate this guy, how did he even get elected?
Because not all of Australia is represented here on Facepunch, or the internet for that matter.
Because not all of Australia is represented here on Facepunch, or the internet for that matter.
Yeah sure, but from news reports I'm hearing nothing good from this guy.
His daughter's nose is the same as his, it's like two twins.
Her smile would make me forget about the nose though. I wonder... What if she had no nose?

He looks like a cross between Phil Coulson and Ned Vaughn channeling a tea pot with those fucking ears.
So if like, all Australians hate this guy, how did he even get elected?
His party did a good job of making the former government look awful. The former government had a couple of leadership spills (prime minister lost a lot of popularity so there was a big thing where he was replaced with another member of the party, then after some time the same thing happened to her and they re-elected the first prime minister) which, combined with constant flak from the opposition and the media meant that basically no one trusted them. In the public eye it seemed like who we were voting for might not be who is actually in office later in the term. Basically, Tony Abbott won by not being Kevin Rudd.
Well his children are a bright bunch because they're expected to achieve, doesn't surprise me if she actually earned it. Still for the sake of people calling bullshit she shouldn't have attempted the scholarship, since her dad earns more than the godamned US president.
No, he'll reach the mantle and get burned up. Which is infinitely more preferable.
He'll reach hell and take back his throne.
So if like, all Australians hate this guy, how did he even get elected?
Most Australian fp'ers like me are left wing and we never liked Abbott from the beginning, there's a few right wing users who support the coalition (such as Azza) But even my grand parents who are conservative hated Abbott as well and I think they may of voted Labor because Kevin actually had a plan going on Everyone's already explained how this dickhead got into office and that was because of Labor always suffering from leader spills every 3 years and the Rupert Murdoch press encouraging everyone to vote Liberal

And I love how in Australian politics there's pretty much no left wing, only labor as moderately right and the coalition as far right. Then we have the greens... ohohoho

But that's not why he's my favourite; I love watching him during Senate estimates. There are lots of left wing parties that contest Senate elections, and of course the Greens are pretty left. My local government area is actually very interesting, because it's the only LGA in the nation where, once upon a time, a majority of Councillors were members of the Communist Party of Australia.
So if like, all Australians hate this guy, how did he even get elected?
because only us smart aussies use facepunch
I think Labor's Centre-Left position is good, I mean there's some things I support on both sides but I just wish Labor was in power because we'd get their brilliant NBN, Same sex marriage and more money for education and health I honestly think Malcolm Turnbull needs to be the new leader for the Coalition tbh
I honestly think Malcolm Turnbull needs to be the new leader for the Coalition tbh
You think anything would ever get done in this country if he were? Hahaha wow.
I wouldn't call Labor left if you take into account all the factions and form an opinion based on the general policies of Labor, they seem to swing between being slightly left and slightly right on the whole. The NBN was a joke. It should've been added into the budget expenses so we'd have transparency on exactly the costs of it and how much Labor was putting into it, and they sold much of it out to Telstra and monopolized the system once again. Hell, and the coverage map of the NBN was abysmal. Not saying none is better, I'm saying it needed a lot more funding than it got, and it's shit under any party, just heavily rolled back under the Coalition. The original plan for the NBN was great under Labor, just as time went on they managed to screw it up by siphoning funding from it. I agree on the points about education and health, this budget is plain stupid. Nobody is going to react well to cuts to health, it scares people. Even if it does only cost (at most) $70 a year for people on concession cards, people are going to fear more cuts. And the education cuts are just blatantly idiotic, however I do think us uni attendees should have more force on us to pay back HECS, but not the way the coalition is going about it, I personally think the threshold of income before HECS is deducted from your income should be lowered instead. And same-sex marriage doesn't seem likely in any of the parties because for some fucked reason the majority of Australians oppose it. (There were some polls a while ago run on it). However as time goes on its looking more and more likely. Also Abbott should gtfo, he's an idiot and can't manage himself in public. It's like a backbencher attack-dog somehow managed to become PM. Turnbull isn't exactly a good alternative though, he's the single least trustworthy person that could become PM in the coalition. Hockey is much better, can actually talk properly and present his ideas, replies and answers in a coherent way instead of uhm aahh mm uh ah uh. He can actually follow a topic subject and form a nonbullshit reply every once in a while, which is rare for a politician.
