So what I got from this video is that I should play MGS2 on an emulator.

The "HD" Collection on Vita is actually very enjoyable aside from minor control and visibility issues that come from being on a handheld. Though it is a lesser experience overall.
god damn this was an awesome df retro retro is probably my favorite thing to come from digital foundry, it's just awesome
So what I got from this video is that I should play MGS2 on an emulator.
Played the HD collection and i had a blast. HD Collection of course also comes with MGS 3 and Peace Walker, the Playstation 3 version also gives you access to MGS 1 (no remaster or anything)

The HD Collection Just has 2, 3, and Peace Walker (and the old MSX Metal Gear games that came with MGS3:Subsitence).
So what I got from this video is that I should play MGS2 on an emulator.
There is absolutetly nothing wrong with the HD collection. In fact it's an absolute bargin with 3 brilliant games, it's also got the original metal gear if you like really retro stuff like that. I suspect i'll go against the grain here but. Unless you can actually get the original copy on disk with the case and manual, get the HD collection it's almost perfect. Metal Gear Solid would have been made it perfect.
MGS2 was such an amazing game for its time. Hell, even today the game is pretty amazing. I love everything about it, the story, the character designs, writing, the refined gameplay from MGS1, the (really impressive for 2001) AI, the soundtrack. It's hardly an overstatement to call this game a masterpiece.
my HD collection came with a voucher for MGS1 tho?
Mine didn't. Maybe it depends on the region or game store.
only the Legacy collection comes with the PSN code for MGS1. HD collection is only 2, 3, and PW. Only downside of the HD collection is that the intro for 3 is terribly out of sync with the music, and yes that is a big deal to me
my HD collection came with a voucher for MGS1 tho?
Are you sure the copy you're talking about is the HD Collection and not the Legacy Collection? The only place that the HD Collection officially came with a MGS1 voucher was Japan due to their version not including Peace Walker.

so is there anywhere you can still find MGS1 in HD or the Twin Snakes remake but not on GC?
So what I got from this video is that I should play MGS2 on an emulator.
This is what I did and honestly it was worth it although kinda infuriating at some parts ([sp]The FUCKING BOMB FREEZE SPRAY part[/sp]) due to the keyboard controls.
This is what I did and honestly it was worth it although kinda infuriating at some parts ([sp]The FUCKING BOMB FREEZE SPRAY part[/sp]) due to the keyboard controls.
Xbox controls are a little better but the lack of context button pressing (so it acts as if you're jamming the buttons all the way down, since the DualShock buttons are a bit more sensitive) can be frustrating when you're trying to sneak around.
How is the PC port of MGS1?
Good for the time, but in 2017 you'd be better off running the PS1 version in an emulator. Found while researching: The Making Of the PC port of MGS1
Oh wow, imagine that the audience had absolutely no idea about Raiden back then.
I remember reading Electronic Gaming Monthly, and they had all these intricate things about the Tanker section of the game and so forth. Then the review came out and they wouldn't stop bitching about Raiden and his codec calls with Rose. After that they pretty much took every shot they could at him whenever MGS2 came up in the publication.
Wait a second, why are emulated versions of MGS1/2 better than ported versions? I've never had any problems with playing on M+KB of MGS2 ported Substance version. Or am I missing something out? Also, is MGS3 playable on emulator? I really wanted to play it some time.
Oh wow, imagine that the audience had absolutely no idea about Raiden back then.
Yup, funny how that was the whole point, and Kojima did it all on purpose, and that was apparently his first huge "ruse" on the fanbase.

As for MGS3, It seems like you still have issues when in the the GPU mode, but from what I'm reading some of the newer builds are fixing them. If you have a good CPU you can go for software mode, I guess.
Anyone else think the presenter was a bit too close to the camera? I feel like if he took one step back it'd look a lot better.
I still hope that Konami, just might make proper PC ports for the games like the HD Collection.

And MGS3 especially as OpenGL rendering fixes most bugs such as colour issues (which are noticeable at the beginning of the game) and the codec not being rendered as accurately as it should. You can get the most up to date versions from the automated PCSX2 build website. Visual oddities are not as noticeable as they were a few years back, but even then it wasn't that bad.
Is there a way to emulate the functions of the pressure sensitive buttons of the Dualshock 2 on, say, an Xbone controller? I really don't feel like digging out a DS3 that I've had put away somewhere and installing SCP.

It's kind of complicated though, there's a sensitivity slider for each pressure sensitive button and you'd need to overwrite another button to do it
Oh wow, imagine that the audience had absolutely no idea about Raiden back then.
Yeah that was quite the shock. The hype for MGS2 cannot be understated; When I played MGS1 back in 98' it was such an incredible experience even with such limited hardware. When the PS2 came out we saw a lot of what it had to offer but MGS2 was THE game that would show off its true potential. Those graphics, the high polycounts for the time, the facial animations... I remember seeing the screenshots at IGN and various magazines and people were so blown away and that trailer I watched countless times in low rez spit-part downloadable web videos. Then Zone of the Enders came out and we got the demo with and my god we played the shit out of that over and over. The demo lived up to the hype and then some, not to mention my friend had one of those massive huge 50" rear projection TVs so I got the best experience. Little details like shooting every bottle on the shelf, the slowly melting ice cubes, seeing the small object physics from shooting the magazines around, the fact that the soldiers reacted differently where shot and tranqued, that silky smooth 60fps and good character animation and weather, it was unbelievable for the time. Then the game came out and it sunk in when the tanker section was over that we were not playing as snake in a cool atmospheric nightime setting but this other character in broad daylight setting just was such a punch in the gut. Overall it still was a great game and I liked the later chapters but it was such a "WHYYYYYYY" moment for everyone.
