The warning comes after a massive police hunt was launched in the U.K last week in an attempt to find a missing 14-year-old and 15-year-old. The pair was found and investigators believe they were playing the game. VPD Const. Brian Montague says disappearing on purpose for 72 hours is a bad idea, especially as it would likely trigger a police investigation. "This is beyond foolish," he said. "Not knowing where their loved ones or family members are, it is extremely hard to explain and until you are in that situation I would not wish it on anyone."
Send the little asshats to juvy for wasting public resources that could have been used on legitimate missing persons cases.
This and swatting (FAR MORE SERIOUS) are a massive waste on resources that could be used on actual cases where people are actually dealing with something horrible.
The people who play this game are probably as dim-witted as the people who microwaved there iPhone expecting it to charge.
The people who play this game are probably as dim-witted as the people who microwaved there iPhone expecting it to charge.
Are you telling me I could have been charging my iPhone in a microwave this whole time???? See you in 72 hours!!!
So after the 72 hours you just return back home and go "you just got pranked" and expect everyone to go "damn, we were fooled good!" If I did this to my parents when I was that young I would get the ass whooping of a lifetime, hell I nearly got slapped for going to Brisbane unauthorised when I was 14
Here's what I was just thinking. You know Apple's Find my iPhone feature (let's face it, sadly, most use them) and Google's location services & history/Android Device Manager? Yeah, it's gonna be reporting your location periodically. You're telling someone where you are, nearly precisely. Therefore, anyone that plays this challenge has already automatically lost the game because the objective is not to tell ANYONE where you are, so there is no winner at all. Bam, I just tore this beyond retarded excuse of a "game" apart instantaneously since only the house (Apple/Google) wins.
What is it nowadays with people willingly participating in stupid bullshit like this and swatting? To screw around with the police?
What is it nowadays with people willingly participating in stupid bullshit like this and swatting? To screw around with the police?
They think the only thing cops do are eat donuts and give tickets
Only a matter of time before one of them actually goes missing and the police are too stretched thin looking for the other little shits.
They think the only thing cops do are eat donuts and give tickets
Basically every officer ever is as incompetent as Chief Wiggum. What a great mindset these fine folks have.
What is it nowadays with people willingly participating in stupid bullshit like this and swatting? To screw around with the police?
It's adventurous, exciting, and attention grabbing which are all things that many young and dumb people crave. They aren't in it for anything other than the rush. Swatting on the other hand is a way to quickly and absolutely scare the ever living shit out of somebody you don't like and even possibly get them hurt or killed, and all you need is a phone to do it. Again the thought process is more about what happens now and not the consequences. Some people just don't catch on to values like respect for the community and other individuals.
Basically every officer ever is as incompetent as Chief Wiggum. What a great mindset these fine folks have.
I think the Simpsons has had a big effect on some of this stuff. Ever since the show started airing, people seem to have been getting less and less trustful of nuclear power. This leads me to conclude that there is a concerning group of people who both influence others, and take the Simpsons as fact.
Honestly, it's something that seems interesting -- if I were to do something like this I'd probably tell people I'm close to and see if they can find me or something. But disappearing without warning is fucking stupid.
They need to invent a new game for these bored teens. The goal is to go out every day for two weeks and come back with more money than you had at the start, they could call it "Game of 2 weeks" also known as "get a job".
72 hourz is precisely just enough time to get kids in trouble from every front, including school, so i assume that the person who made this up is not a kid, but instead some smartass trying to get idiot teens to do stupid shit
Why get rid of idiots for only 72 hours?
This seems like someone set up a perfect kidnap plot.
This seems like someone set up a perfect kidnap plot.
Holy shit, can you imagine someone orchestrating a dumb viral sensation to drown out one or two targets in the masses. I swear there's been a movie with a plot like this
words
I don't care if you're a troll but its not that easy. That's behind the person's google/apple account and you need a password to get to that. Plus if location services are off, it won't report locations
That's fine, just play 128 hours of prison with them for an epic troll joke!
Basically every officer ever is as incompetent as Chief Wiggum.
They think the only thing cops do are eat donuts and give tickets
That is very dangerous thinking, never underestimate the power or sanity of a cop.

I mean it'd be cool to totally disappear, but your loved ones not knowing where you are is far more important
Shut it down. Make all non-educational web services 18+. I'm tired of this shit.
Sounds like fun, living in the woods for a few days. Obviously tell somebody, dont just go missinh
Shut it down. Make all non-educational web services 18+. I'm tired of this shit.
Yes internet Dad.
Yes internet Dad.
all internet users must remember 9/11 before being allowed on the internet
Shut it down. Make all non-educational web services 18+. I'm tired of this shit.
Dumbest thing I've heard all year.
