Oops: why cars shouldn't be transported on a ships deck

"A total of 64 cars were aboard cargo ship Astongate traveling from Toyama, Japan, to Vladivostok, Russia. After the storm hit the ship -- 52 of them ended up at the bottom of the sea. Whoever bought those cars signed a document allowing the cargo to be transported on ship's deck at their own risk."

No safety ropes to secure them in place or what? Kinda of a really stupid move..

Well, the deck looks like it's littered with safety ropes, so maybe they came loose somehow.
The storm probably broke all the straps, it's oddly entertaining watching these cars get swept around on top of a boat.
look at that sea. jesus. i'd be shitting myself
Oh my god that poor subaru :c ...
Shoddiest safety ever. The cars seem like they don't even have the parking brake engaged.

Ouch
something about this is kinda sad
i mean, you gotta feel bad for whoever wanted those cars :v:
At least they aren't cars that are already owned being transported somewhere else.
"Sorry mam, but we lost your car in the middle of the ocean while we were transporting it for you."
Well, lets think about it this way.
It would be a hell of a lot worse if the cars actually got to the road rage filled russian roads...
Losing on-deck cargo in bad weather happens frequently, there's always a risk of it happening. The forces and wear from the twisting and turning are immense and prolonged, and they can't go on deck to touch up the safety during because it's a deathtrap.
Seeing that Subaru WRX smashed up like that brings a tear to the eye. It really must suck to be the owner of those cars, chances are you won't be getting it.
Also holy shit that ship looks really dirty.

I bet he signed it while saying "What's the worst that could happen"

You mean with snow?
Imagine if bugattis/lamborghinis where on there :v:
People would go diving to repair and sell them.
