The arrests came after properties at Flemington, Meadow Heights and Dallas in Melbourne were raided as part of a counter-terrorism operation involving Victoria Police, the Australian Federal Police and ASIO. Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Graham Ashton said it was believed a number of people were intending to carry out an attack involving explosives and other weapons, possibly on Christmas Day. "Over the last fortnight … we have had to conduct a criminal investigation relating to the formation of what we believe was a terrorist plot," he said.
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-12-23/police-foil-alleged-christmas-day-'terrorist-plot'-in-melbourne/8143762
Good. I hope they face live imprisonment.
Chief Police Commissioner Ashton said he had 400 cops working on this last night. I would think it's a pretty serious attempt to kill and injure people.
Good. I hope they face live imprisonment.
Well, wouldn't do them much good if they had them dead while imprisoned
Four of the five men to face court were Australian-born men in their 20s, the commissioner said. A further suspect facing charges was born in Egypt. Police believed the men were self-radicalised, “inspired by Isis and Isis propaganda”, Ashton said. “The individuals involved in this matter have been persons of interest for Victoria Police and intelligence agencies now for some period of time,” Ashton said.
https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2016/dec/23/five-in-custody-alleged-melbourne-christmas-terrorism-threat Well no surprise there.
Police have disrupted a terrorist plot to detonate improvised explosive devices at locations in central Melbourne, possibly on Christmas Day, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull says.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews described the plot as an "act of evil", while Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Graham Ashton said police had seized "the makings of an improvised explosive device".
So either a suicide bombing or a Paris-styled bombing and gun attack.
Glad our police are always quick to get these idiots before they do something terrible We've really learnt our lesson after the Sydney seige
